Given that the Mexican Drug Cartels can probably make a call to some other country like China and order a few cases of chinese made AKs, again, yawn. China will sell guns to pretty much anybody. Heck, Russia will probably sell them a few cases of surplus AKs also.

Nope. I don’t think guns should be banned. In fact, nothing I posted said anything about the right to bear arms - just that gun nuts say some dumb-ass shit sometimes.
Rather expensive AK-47’s are manufactured in the US. For the cheap (fully automatic) one’s they would probably simply look to the south to get truck loads of the things. Central and South America are awash in AK’s…they probably wouldn’t need to go looking as far afield as China or Russia. The point, however, is that they wouldn’t get them from the US, nor would they be wanting our kicking semi-automatic ‘assault rifles’, despite how fierce they look.

Now THAT is something I can wholeheartedly agree with. The next time I hear about “zombies” or “SHTF” will be too soon, even if they are euphemisms. People who make those types of statements rather than presenting their case in a rational, level-headed manner do more harm than good.

It doesn’t take much to convert them to full automatic. And the US has thousands of cheap AKs made in other countries available.

I’d not heard of “SHTF” before, but after Googling - yeah, that’s some wacky stuff.
I was reading a BBC story the other day about a highly successful Arms Amnesty in somewhere like Kenya or Sierra Leone, where disaffected militant/rebel groups had traded in their guns for amnesty and returned to society.
Most of the guns were rusty bolt-action military rifles from the colonial era, old sporting shotguns of the type used for hunting small game, home-made “zip-guns”, and a tiny handful of AK-47s, FN-FALs and H&K G3s.
“Guns which look like Assault Rifles” are not the problem, basically.
As an American citizen concerned about gun rights, my opinion is BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!
