NRA to Sue Arizona over Destroying Buyback Guns

So what would Stephen Covey do to try and make this win-win? The police can buy back guns, getting them out of the hands of those who don’t want them, return the stolen one’s to their owners getting them out of the hands of criminals, and sell the remaining at auction to those who want them making it profitable or cost neutral, then dispose of the trash that nobody wants. It would supply less expensive guns to those who want them and thus would not be perceived by gun enthusiasts and the NRA as backhanded gun control. Would anyone be against that?

Now, why would the NRA be against reducing the number of guns on the streets? That’s got nothing at all to do with anybody’s “rights.”

What’s on Schedule I?

Obviously because guns save lives, help protect freedom, prevent genocide, etc. When I say on the streets of course were meaning in general that they are mostly in peoples homes.

Oh, come now, not even the NRA could be that silly! Why do you think so little of the NRA?!

lol, I think that means “no, but I prefer not to admit being inconsistent.”

Keep in mind that it’s not just things people “no longer need.” It’s anything people prefer to trade for money.

Why would public officials need to be involved?

It’s a long list, but Schedule I includes GHB, LSD, MDMA (somewhat controversial), heroin, psilocybin, and (most controversially) marijuana. Schedule I is defined as substances of high abuse potential with no currently accepted use for medical treatment and a lack of accepted safety for use under medical supervision.

Anyway, this is hijacking the thread. As for the thread, I think the NRA is being absolutely idiotic.

Because…

Every gun is special
Every gun is great
If a gun gets wasted
God gets quite irate

Every gun is wanted
Every gun is good
Every gun is needed
In your neighborhood

Why are you anti-gunners always trying to bring God into this?

whoosh?

Exactly. This is the heart of the matter. Pro-gun people recognize that guns are tools and that they have value other than just being evil death dealing scary things that must be destroyed. We scratch out heads at why perfectly good guns and even collectible guns would be destroyed for no reason. Anti-gun people just want to see them destroyed, even if selling them would save the state money. They can’t get past their hatred for guns and thus can’t be rational about them.

In this discussion Jack Batty kept calling these guns God given. Now you mention it. Is that like a debate technique cause you are out of facts or are you guys really superstitious?

I assume you’ve never seen The Meaning of Life?

Cute.

So you’re just going to give up on your ridiculous argument that pro-gun people celebrated the death of Trayvon Martin?

The usual approach when you have been so soundly routed is to slink away from the thread and hope everyone forgets about you. Alternatively, you could man up and admit defeat.

Nope. Was Jack Batty referencing a movie too?

Don’t know. My comment was self-standing. You gun types are all carrying on as if the guns themselves are noble and innocent victims and must be saved at all costs, as if each gun had a divine purpose. Much as the Catholic children in The Meaning of Life sang “Every sperm is sacred”, your side seems to be singing “Every gun is sacred”. So I substituted “gun” for “sperm” in the chorus to make my point that every gun is NOT sacred and every gun is NOT good.

Search for the poem he quoted in Google, but replace “gun” with “sperm”.

It’s a Monty Python thing. I prefer the Life of Brian, myself.

I really don’t get what you mean. I think guns are spiffy, but I don’t think they have a divine purpose. If that’s your best argument however, have at it.

Jack Batty being ironic, you dope.

The trouble is I’m not following your sides’ argument. If you accept the premise that one has a right to buy guns (and I don’t, but for the sake of argument I must state this as a premise), then what does it matter if any specific guns are destroyed? Someone wants to exchange a gun for a gfit card, knowing that the gun will be destroyed. How does this hurt you? Do you think that when the person sees the error of his ways he’ll buy another, increasing demand and therefore the market price? Exactly what are you afraid of? What is so special about these guns that they must not be destroyed? Is every gun sacred?
