No. Three Mile Island never had a hydrogen gas explosion, and there have been several at Fukushima. It was years before it was “confirmed” that there had been a meltdown at TMI. The NatGeo cable channel is currently playing a documentary made several years ago on what happened at TMI. What is clear is that the utility did not know what was going on and made up information about what was going on, and at one point said that they it wasn’t anybody’s business but theirs.
Well, no. I’d like to think that the Abalone Alliance and other hippies were able to stop Diablo Canyon from being finished and turned on, as well as other reactors, but that wasn’t the only cause, and it was probably a small contribution. Nuclear reactors cost an enormous amount of money and are difficult to build. Diablo Canyon had numerous engineering mistakes that were caught and expensively corrected, including putting a series of piping in a mirror image of the actual design. They don’t always operate at advertised capacity. Rancho Seco in Sacramento never operated at more than 39% capacity and the voters who owned it shut it down years ago. TMI undoubtely had some effect politically, but also on the shareholders who don’t want to invest in something that is so expensive and vulnerable that the people in the operating room don’t know what is going on.
Then there is the Homer Simpson effect. America has been propagandized for twenty plus years now with Homer Simpson as their image of a control room operator. He is an idiot and an incompetent and has nearly destroyed Springfield a number of times.
No, we won’t stop with the mocking and the gallows humor. Fuck 'em with a hot uranium fuel rod. The industry shills won’t stop lying and we won’t stop mocking them for the obvious lies. Chernobyl. Any nuclear plant design that is significantly screwed up by human beings can turn into Chernobyl. TMI could have been Chernobyl with another hour or so of screw ups. Fukushima can still turn into Chernobyl and we will not know the official version for several years. We know that they screwed up the back up cooling and power systems. We know that the area has been evacuated.
If you are referring to the drone, I have seen that it mostly uses radar, optical and infrared sensors. And it is made specially for detecting moving targets, but the resolution is not at the levels that you are imagining over here. And there has been no mention at all about gamma ray detectors in the drones.
Most of the reports I saw do mention that even with that sophistication, the drone just “may” or “could” help, and that is because the reported resolution in perfect conditions that can reach is to resolve objects that are larger than 1 to 6 feet and up; unfortunately, the infrared sensor is not at that level, and that is why the most likely help will be on identifying hot spots in the plant (a big help in any case), not radiation levels.
As we saw on the Daily Mail example, the ones lying more are from alarmists in the press.
In the other thread you mentioned that images are out already of people dead or sick of radiation. As there was no mention that most likely the victims would be among the workers, it is clear that the statement was made to raise hysteria and fear among the public. Also, not pointing at what was your source tells me two possible things:
You are smart enough to know that the source you got that information about the images is shit. But since your intention is to scare people, you do not care about that.
or 2) You are dumb enough to think that the cite-less bit was a good one.
The longer we go without seeing the citation, it is clear that we have to choose among those two choices: trolling or dumbness.
As one can not know about the capabilities a poster has, one has to fall for the obvious, Identifying the sources of information offers a direct line of evidence that an opponent is smart or clueless; sincere or lying; scientifically minded or truther conspiracy nut. Others can see if you are able to discriminate the bad sources from the good ones.
And it is also important to see how you react when confronted with requests to fess up or with contrary evidence.
It’s funny how that works. Please cite where you got all that information from. Otherwise, according to your rules, you are either trolling or a dumbass. The longer you go with out a cite for what you posted, the more it looks like you are either lying or trolling.
While the real information about technology is classified, we do know enough about what is public already to be able to know that anyone who says they don’t know anything about the reactors, is full of shit.
Because they have been fed high resolution data all along.
To watch somebody now try and defend the liars, that makes you suspect.
The same goes for all the misinformation and lies about not knowing if nuclear material has leaked, or what the level of radiation is. Of course “they” know. That you believe they don’t, well that is on you.
I did not know that a couple hundred workers getting lethal doses of radiation do not count. They are getting it somewhere. Could it be the leaking plants?
That would tell some people, if the workers were not risking their lives every day, something much worse could happen. Would that be bad or just a liberal reaction to a minor hiccup in the well run and honest nuclear plants.
Funny, I was going to post that Fast Company article as one of my sources, clearly no Gamma detectors are mentioned, and other sources point out that infrared resolution is not as good as the optical one.
But then again, to show all who is the one full of shit: where is the citation that there are images of people dead or sick by the radiation?
The media keeps repeating that two workers at the plant are ‘missing’. After a week, you might suspect they either fled the scene, or something bad happened to them.
Same for all the injured workers. It’s amazing how they haven’t been seen, seeing as how they are still national heroes, even in a hospital bed. Funny how nobody has interviewed them or anything.
I already mentioned that workers most likely will get it, Mr FX claimed images are already out of victims sick or dying, unless he clarifies it is clear that he was implying that others besides workers are affected, what is also clear is that he pulled the “images of sick and dying” pout of his ass.
if somebody can watch a video of a nuclear reactor building blowing up, especially the second explosion, and still buy that no radioactive material has been released from the site, (while reports are coming in of material found 90k from the plant), then is there really any point in trying to discuss something with them?
Even when they have to admit there has been a release, they then switch to “trace amounts”, and I just wonder, what is the disconnect here? Is it to try and reduce people’s anxiety?
As long as you guys are splitting hairs (or bodies as 'twere), did you know the DOE has Nuclear Test Ban monitoring equipment that can detect radiation levels .001% below that which a person normally receives in the form of background radiation from rocks, bricks, and the sun?
No mention of the radiation levels found, just a clear attempt at misleading others.
I do think heads must roll for several actions done by the planners, but it is still bullshit to attempt to raise the moderated fear that should be there with misleading information.
Of course he knows it, but cognitive dissonance is a wonderful thing.
According to FXMastermind and a few others, you’re either for them or you’re against them; there’s no room for nuance or shades of grey in their position. If you say that this is a very bad nuclear accident with the potential for meltdown(s) in one or more reactors, with radiation release and injuring or killing workers, but show actual cites that it cannot be an explosion that is as bad as Chernobyl, then they label you a “radiation denier” or a “moonbat”. They elevate strawman creation to an art form.
