Hi
On September 27 1996, Paul Bloom of Nevada asked;
Is there any surefire way to stop telemarketing calls?
In England we have a law preventing people from making unwanted calls, but it is a bit long-winded and it doesn’t always work anyway. The only certain way is to take each caller to court, and that would be prohibitively costly.
Fortunately, with caller I.D. it is easy to know that the caller is either unknown to you or has withheld their number because they don’t want you to know it. I usually answer these unidentified calls and before the telemarketer (or whomever the caller is) can speak I quickly say, in a hushed voice, “It’s done, but there’s blood everywhere and I’ve got to clean up. I’ll call you to let you know when the body has been shifted. The phone might be tapped, so don’t call this number again.” Then hang up.
I receive far fewer calls nowadays than I ever used to - maybe the telemarketers put me down as a crank and make a note not to waste their time? Who cares, it seems to work.
