What’s up dopes? From time to time I notice that there are numbers arranged in a clockwise fashion on the back of many plastic products. There is also an arrow or something in the middle of this circle. Is this a time of production? If so. of what importance would it be on a piece of plastic?
I’ve seen several variations on this, the last one I saw was the date of manufacture (three “dials” - first one was the month, second was the first digit of the date, third was the second digit of the date). I assume it’s for quality control. If they get a lot of defects being returned they can check the code and look back to see what was done differently in that batch versus a known good batch (new supplier of raw material, new employee just starting, new software in the automation system…).
Thanks swede, in short I guess it’s to find out who they’re gonna go afetr.Tanks!
I used to work in the container industry (aluminum cans and PET bottles) and we would mark our products to indicate what production line created it. Typically these marks were a series of dots or a number on the bottom of the aluminum can depending on the manufacturer. Using these markings I could tell exactly which machines and conveyors had handled the can. Quality problems were usually very easy to track down, though not always easy to fix.
The filler (coke, pepsi, whatever) would stamp the bottle later to indicate when and where it was filled using what was probably a similar system.
