When I first put on my LJ4L w98 had all the files it needed already.
You could try to uninstall it in the Printer properties & restart the computer & it should reinstall it. Are you sure its not asking for a W98 cdrom?

handy, thanks, but no, it’s asking for the printer install disc. but it wouldn’t matter, I have neither one. gotta go shut down stuff so I can attempt to download from the website.
The older HP installs typically come either as one large executable or as a series of floppy disk sized executables. If you download the large executable save it to a directory and when run it will create a number of subdirectories under that directory called “disk1 disk2 disk3 disk4” etc. The setup file will be in the disk1 directory. When it asks for the next disk simply point it to the disk2 directory > disk3 > disk4 etc as needed.
damn. I couldn’t get it to run. I saved it to the hard drive, followed instructions, found the path etc. but it wouldn’t ‘run’. will try using ‘run’ vs. the install printer maybe? ( I mean I even located the extended file astro seemed to be talking about and couldn’t identify the path for the computer to use it. I could see : windows something t I don’t know, will come back tomorrow and try any other suggestions etc.
Honest, I really, really appreciate your efforts.
(there was something like: lj388 )
What driver site did you get them? The install disk for my printer fits on 1.44 floppy. Also, the drivers for it at:
http://download.ust.hk/drivers/ Are around a half meg.
This has actually worked for me before…
Unplug printer.
Wait 10 Seconds.
Replug Printer.
Test.
