Nutjobs take over "Real Time With Bill Maher," 10/19/07
Ah, another conspiracy theory.
If by “conspiracy” you mean Maher and a couple of staffers creating a little drama to generate buzz, then yeah. I’d say your definition was pretty stretchy, though.

On the other hand, if today’s AP report is correct–that it was just one protester being thrown out, and that Maher just shoved him out while surrounded by his own security people–well, that I totally believe.
I honestly can’t understand the mindset of someone who believes “they” were behind 9/11, yet doesn’t feel the slightest bit of fear proclaiming that “they” were behind 9/11 on camera.

If “they” really were behind 9/11, you think they’d have the slightest hesitation about disappearing people who discover the truth?
Did you guys see the ep where Mos Def said believes 9/11 was a government conspiracy. He said he didn’t think it was “real” in any case, just an excuse for our government to make its citizens afraid. I am totally paraphrasing, but I was kind of surprised to hear someone so seemingly intelligent stating this on national television. Maher’s open scorn for Mos Def’s POV might have made him a target for the truthers, maybe?

A T. rex that fights crime with his Dalek friend Bob.

How much will the option to develop this for television cost?

I was watching that show, and I kept waiting for the punchline. I noticed that one of the hecklers was also holding a banner…why on earth, if they really have metal detectors (as Bill said, which was why he wasn’t afraid to confront him face to face) would security let someone bring that in? Not to mention that he was screaming for a couple of minutes before he was escorted out. Something definitely seemed fishy there.

Until he explained it, I thought that the protesters were screaming something about him calling the United States military cowards (the comment that got him kicked off ABC, and also something I totally agreed with when he said it).

Huh? He didn’t call the military cowards. He said the 9/11 hijackers weren’t cowards because, really, how can you call someone who’s willing to stare death in the face for their beliefs cowardly?

yes, and he also said that the real cowards are the ones who push a missile-launching button located 2000 miles away. I don’t remember if he specificially mentioned the US Military in that comment, but when he gave an apology the next night, he said that he was talking about the US Military policies in general, not the American troops, so that pretty much proved it.

And the part I agreed with was that the terrorists in 9/11 were not cowards. A coward would not sacrifice their life like that, even if it was for a stupid reason.

I’d forgotten about that part of it.

Did you see the show? It was real.

Come on, you got my point.

I followed some linkies and watched one of the “Truther” vids. An observation and a question:

 1. I think some of the girls I have dated are, or are certainly qualified to be, "Truther"s.

 2. Drew Carey is a “Truther”?

No, our government doesn’t “disappear” people. That would be too obvious. Instead, the government conspires to make every person who knows THE REAL TRUTH to come across as a stark raving lunatic. Therefore, every stark raving lunatic knows the real truth.

Or something like that.

That’s exactly how it went down. But I’ll bet Maher really would’ve kicked that guy’s ass on live TV, if security let him.

I have great difficulty believing Bill Maher could kick the ass of any adult between the ages of 18-70.

Where’s the link for that?
I’m a big fan of Bill Maher, but I’d like to follow Maher’s own “be more cynical” edict and call shenanigans. I’ve seen no evidence that Bill Maher is anything but a prissy primadona (anyone see him lose it over an audio problem a few weeks back?). I’m skeptical that he’d throw himself into the middle of a bunch of acivist strangers, or that these strangers would shuffle out so willingly as he shoved them to the exits.
Conpsiracy types are not known for being badasses- a weenie like Bill can handle a couple of them no problem.

I haven’t seen what’s on Youtube but here’s a distilled version from LiveLeak. The clip is sad for everybody in the room except Chris Matthews.

Hah. Bill Maher really impressed me. When the asshole yelled “booooooooooo” and Bill replied, “and cows disagree with me” I cracked up.

Just an opinion.

Can you explain the opinion? I don’t get it.

No, because it didn’t happen. I did see a show a few weeks back where they had an audio problem; no “losing it” took place.

Missed the show; I’ll have to try and catch the repeat tonight. I know there have been a number of times it seemed his audience was full of idiots.

I watched it yesterday and it seemed like 3 people got kicked out-- two men and one woman. We only got visual of one of them, the first one. Huffington Post refers to them as “hecklers,” plural.

OT, I thought Garry Kasparov was incredible. I wish we had politicians that articulate here. And Chris Matthews’ laugh scared my new cat half to death. Does he always bray like that?
