I was looking to buy a book on the Eagles on Amazon.
The hard cover “Eagles To The Limit” sells for about 70 cents for one in good condition. And there are many available at that price and condition.
So I was looking around the site at other sellers and what their prices were.
One was selling a book that was signed by the author (not by one of the Eagles) for $30.00.
However at the very end was a seller who was selling one that was in acceptable condition with this description "This book was used MANY, MANY times. Corners HEAVILY WORN!!!? Cover is dirty and dusty. Also, water damages in more than half of the pages insdie, so those pages are wrinkle pretty badly.? Colorful highlightings in ALMOST ALL pages!!! 3 pages fall off from the binding, but they are still included in the book. No pages missing, though. "
They wanted $688.88 for the book!!!
Has to be a joke, right?
I had something similar happen several years ago. I was looking for an old RPG book (I can’t remember which one). Most copies on Amazon were going for $15-$20, except for one guy who was selling one for $300. The only think I could think of is a way to move money, like someone needed to get $300 to someone and decided the best way to do it was have him put a random book for sale for $300 and buy it. Seems like it would be easier to just use PayPal or Western Union though.
All you have to do is sell just one.
This is something I often see when looking for used (or for that matter, new) CDs or LPs. Prices will start out at a buck or two, gradually go on up to maybe $10 and then on the extreme side, someone will be hoping to find an idiot willing to shell out $150.
I’ve seen items for sale on Amazon where various Amazon Marketplace sellers are selling the item for more than Amazon itself is selling the same item.
