NY AG Letitia James drops the (civil) hammer {On Trump & Family} [9/21/2022]

I’d like to see SOME action surrounding his claim of having $400-500 million in cash. If he has it, either post it as bond, or identify it for seizure. (Or, reveal that - surprise surprise - in this one instance he is not telling the unvarnished truth.)

Broken link. Here’s a corrected gift link:

I agree that there may be slow and deliberate moves going on…but those are likely to take years. The real win here is not financial, in any case…the real win is political; the optics today are just as important as the final results will be years from now. Years from now, maybe Trump will have lost $454mill worth of his assets. But nobody will care. And after November, it may be too late*.

A check is nice…but it’s not the main issue. NY state has a budget surplus of $2.2 billion this year. They can afford to wait a long time to collect the extra 454 million from Trump. But the country can’t wait that long…we need to see results now, not after November.

*yes, I know, it’s not a federal case, so if elected, President Trump can’t pardon himself. But you and I both know that he will.

As an employee, the new owner would be able to redefine his job description. Personally, I’d let Trump stay if only for the visual of watching him clean toilets and take out the trash.

The link in your post appears to be broken. Here is a gift link to the article on the NYT front page about the deadline.

I don’t get the impression James is delaying action. Rather the article makes it clear this is a long, difficult process if they have to seize property and other assets. And I agree with what Johnny_Bravo said about the situation so I don’t think there is a delay happening.

the civil court is allowing a smaller bond of 175m and he has 10 days to post it.

a partial win. things are not going as well in the criminal court.

Link.

I read ‘deliberately’ as meaning they are intentionally not publicly making moves, as opposed to meaning ‘slow and considered’. Could be both, of course. It was just my take.

I’m ok with that. He may not even be able to pull that off. NY will get $175m guaranteed and will get it easily without a collections process once the appeal is done.

And he’ll still be on the hook for the rest of the judgement, right?

Florida is an at-will state, which means an employer may fire, demote, hire, promote and discipline employees for pretty much any reason, or no reason at all. The only way to change that is to urge your state legislators to pass more protections for employees.

And then we’d have the enjoyable spectacle of Trump railing about the “Un-American ‘At Will’ employment!”

should the 464m hold through the appeal, yes. there is a slim possibility that he could win the appeal, or possibly get a reduction in his judgement.

If the appeal lets things stand, yes. I wouldn’t be surprised if the amount is reduced on appeal anyway. It really is fair

You’re fired!

oh great, now trump is pontificating at the court house. the usual rant, and that they will gather the 100 plus million in short order.

The appeals court judgment makes me sick. Was there any reason to cut the bond to less than half, other than the fact that Trump never stopped whining about it? I swear, the orange fuck was born with a lucky horseshoe up his ass,

That’s what i was wondering. Is he still going to be accumulating 100K-ish a day in interest due on the judgement?

Of course there was other reasoning. You’re getting as histrionic as him. There’s a decent chance that the award will be reduced but not eliminated. It’s completely fair and he still has to come up with a lot of cash (not property). He asked for 100m. They didn’t give him that.

Saying that “it’s completely fair” implies that the original judgment issued by Judge Erdogan was in error and therefore unfair. How do you know that?

Sorry. Your logic is flawed. What I said didn’t imply that at all.

I’m saying that a partial bond is reasonable to delay collection
