NY AG Letitia James drops the (civil) hammer {On Trump & Family} [9/21/2022]

If it’s really growing every day, Biden’s already lost the election by a huge margin.

And strictly speaking, I doubt the entire 40% are outright fascist; I’m sure that a good number are just inexcusably ignorant and would be horrified by the prospect of what Trump is going to do if they cared enough to even consider a vote for a Democrat. But as you say, enough are that it’s disturbing.

So what’s the status of this trial? The prosecution is finished? The defense is… on hold? There will be a conclusion, a judgement, an end sometime?

At this point, I think Trump has demonstrated well enough who his is and the bulk of his supporters aren’t ignorant of that. They understand exactly what kind of man Trump is and they still choose him.

Yeah, legit perspective. It goes to the age old question of how to think of those who get their news from right wing sources and have no genuine clue that Trump said anything controversial at all. Definitely an argument to be made that such people are likely to agree with him even if they had heard it anyway… (Could theorize the same about the voters who hate Trump but think all Democrats are child sodomizing killers.)

This one kinda’, sorta’ belongs here. Trump appears to be violating a part of an Engoron Order:

Only suckers obey laws.

I agree that it’s important and newsworthy, but…
keep me posted when there are actual consequences for He Who Lives Consequence Free.

If Dostoevsky was a Trump biographer, his famous novel would simply be called “Crime.”

Well that could still be the name of a Trump biography!

Laws? Laws are for the little people.

Laws are for the big people … to comply with when advantageous.

I thought of using that line, but didn’t want Peter Dinklage on my case.

BREAKING: Gag order reinstated:

Good. Let’s see how long he can go before violating it.

I hope it’s short.

Now how about enforcement?

Technically the previous breaches were enforced. It’s just that the penalties were not particularly onerous.

The question is whether the next one will incur a marginally less feeble pittance, or have some actual teeth to it.

That’s my question as well. I think the judge is gradually warming-up the penalties, so as not to imply bias - doing it by the book based on prior cases. If he just throws a $1M fine out of the blue for Trump shooting his mouth off, that wont look good on the appeal.

Apparently he was attacking Engoron’s wife this morning. Sound trial strategy. Anyone think the appeals court will buy “The judge must have been biased!!! Look how much shit I said to piss him off!”
