I remember reading this article-sorry, did not keep it. Anyway, in the aftermath of the earthquake, various NGOs poured into Haiti…prepared to “do good”. The article mentioned that the workers for these NGOs were paid tax-free salaries in cash, and had 4WD vehicles supplied to them. Hence, there were a lot of people with a lot of cash-and a Russian entrepreneur moved in to take advantage-he and his wife built a restaurant and casino-where you could gamble and get steaks and seafood (flown in daily). This guy was making a ton of money.
The implication was that most of the money donated went to pay these people-and very litttle of it reached the Haitian people.
The usual parade of bigwigs came in (Bill Clinton, Joe biden, even a representative from the Chuirch of Scientology).
Now, two years later, the money is all gone, and the place is still a dump.
Was the article (substantially) correct? Do NGO/chrities have huge overhead costs that eat up most of their budgets?

The article mentioned in the OP exists - true?
Who the fuck knows, and damned if it’s my job to find out.
I wonder if the NY Times website has a search function? I’d look myself, but I’m just too damn lazy.
Eh, never mind.
