NY-to-LA in 27 hours 25 minutes. New Cannonball run record

None that serious people remarked upon.

I’m sure you’re correct.

Do you have the exact date of this horrible killing? I need it for my list.

8 June 1988. Found it.

I had no idea there was a motorcycle record, but apparently there is one. I’m not a motorcycle rider but I can imagine the effort is much greater than in a car.

Total time 32 hours and 52 minutes.

That’s just insane. Riding a motorcycle is so physically demanding there was no way he was in any type of safe mental space at the end. The car records seem doable and fun but this seems more like a failed suicide attempt.

27 hours and 16 minutes, all video’d by the previous record holder.

He did it solo in in a 2015 BMW 535d diesel.
“Data confirming the record shows that he averaged 105 mph while getting 23 mpg, which cut the number of fuel stops required to complete the 2,800-mile trip, which started at 2 a.m. on an undisclosed date to avoid New York area traffic. He hit a top speed of 151 mph on the El Cajon pass in California.”

That right there is why he should be locked up, for his own safety. The Cajon Pass is anything but straight, and coming down the grade…they wouldn’t even find pieces of him left if he bobbled the slightest bit.

Now, once he made the right turn towards LA, that’s when you crank it.

I never said he was sane.

Being a driving enthusiast myself, I am of two minds. I admire their chutzpah, but the real danger isn’t to, or from, other drivers (at least in the wee hours of the morning), but blasting through Pennsylvania deer country at close to 200 MPH in pitch darkness. You hit a big critter like that at that speed, and the authorities will be spending the rest of the morning mopping it, and you, off of the tarmac. Yes, they often use night-vision devices, but all they need is one to pop out of nowhere and BAM it’s all over.

You know what they say?
“No glory, no guts”.

Wild!!
