NYC decent places to eat?

My wife and I will be in New York City for 2 and a half days starting tomorrow (5/6), and we’ll be staying near 77th @ Broadway.

Anyone know any decent places to eat near there? Hopefully reasonably priced ones too!

Thanks in advance!

Before this gets swept to IMHO, I am intrigued to see that Carmine’s has an Upper West Side location now. Go there if you like mainstream Italian food and plenty of it.

What types of food do you enjoy? How adventurous are you?

Oh, and here is a site you can search Upper West Side by price level and type of restaurant.

Maybe we’ll leave this in GQ for a bit, then move it to IMHO, and finally Cafe Society. You’ll get the best of all worlds.

I always have a nice meal at Pastrami Queen. Upper East Side, 86th and Lexington maybe?

I’ve had many excellent dinners at Josie’s at 74th and Amsterdam.

I’m about the most adventurous person I know as far as food goes- I like Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, Italian (Americanized & authentic), Hungarian, Czech (although not a fan of the dumplings), barbecue, Mexican, Tex-Mex, steaks, seafood, deli food, Mediterranean, Indian, Malaysian, etc…

I wouldn’t go to Carmine’s unless you go with a large group of people as it’s family style and you’ll eat for days if there’s just two of you.

My favorite restaurant in the whole world is Ouest but I wouldn’t call it reasonably priced. They have a sister restaurant (although I don’t think they’re affiliated anymore) called 'Cesca which is also excellent.

Artie’s is sort of an UWS institution.

H&H Bagels (not a restaurant, but great bagels) is at 80th & B’way, right next to Zabar’s which everyone has to visit because it’s just that awesome.

Good Enough to Eat is a great little place on Amsterdam and so is Popover Cafe.

If you want sports bar and wings, go to Blondie’s on 79th. Also on 79th, a great Greek place called Kefi.

A lot of tourists like to hit Ruby Foo’s in Times Square but the one on Broadway has the same food and a lot smaller crowds.

Uhhh, beyond that, I have no idea and will leave it to people who still live there since I moved away two years ago. God I miss NYC. :frowning:

Two words:

Gray’s. Papaya.

Flor de Mayo is Chinese-Peruvian fusion. 83rd and Amsterdam. 'Nuff said.

Here’s my Manhattan Google Maps. It’s got all my favorite tourist attractions and places to eat. I haven’t been to all the restaurants, but have been to 80% of them. It also has a bunch of classic old or dive bars. It’s all weighted towards Chinese restaurants and cheapo fast food joints.

I live above one of those bars!

ETA: Oh, and the Dosa guy of NY Dosas might be having immigration problems. :frowning:

I’m not proud of it, but I did win a bet that I could eat a whole Carmine’s entree by myself. To be fair, it was the ravioli which is overall less volume than the more noodly dishes.

My vegetarian friend was heartbroken when she find her favorite, the noodles with garlic and oil, were made with chicken stock.

Update:

Ended up eating at Artie’s, getting bagels at H&H, and spending quite a while in Zabar’s. We also ended up eating at some pizza joint in the Bronx, on Arthur Avenue near Fordham University.

Oh, and hot dogs at Yankee Stadium!
