NYC Mayor Eric Adams indicted on federal charges, says NYT

I think that’s giving Luigi too much credit. He’s just a guy.

Luigi’s just this guy, you know?

But does he know where his towel is?

I think it’s more likely that he’s just stupid. Lower on the list is that he thinks if he tanks this case by deliberate incompetence, all the people who like Luigi will flock to support him in his legal troubles, because he fundamentally doesn’t understand why people hate him, but love Luigi.

So: Adams and bribery or Cuomo and sexual harrassment? Or will one of the minor candidates develop major support?

Cuomo is going to be the pick of the neoliberal establishment Democrats who see their first and foremost responsibility as being to coddle the donor class. Hopefully New Yorkers are less forgiving than Jeffries and Schumer are.

And the case against Eric Adams is done:

[NPR] Federal judge drops corruption case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams

Ugh, why with prejudice? Hmm. Maybe so Trump can’t keep pulling Adams’s strings, and then reindict him if he doesn’t cooperate.

The judge seems to be explicitly saying it’s for that reason.

Ah, right you are. Thanks.

Since the polls for the Democratic primary weren’t looking too good:

That would be an interesting way to get a Republican mayor.

Just gotta say: Fer cryin’ out loud, NYC Republicans, run a real candidate this time.

It’s remarkable that the NYC republicans managed to find a candidate (Sliwa) who’s worse than both Adams and Cuomo. A Bloomberg type would have had a real shot this go round.

I dunno - I think Jojo Siwa would make a great mayor.

Oh wait - you said Sliwa. Yeah, he’s a jerk.

I don’t know much about the GOP candidate you mention, but this is all related to the way MAGA has taken over the GOP. We saw it here in Massachusetts. Governor Baker (R) would have sailed to victory in the general, but he knew he’d lose the primary to a MAGA candidate who would of course then have no chance in the general.

I don’t understand why the GOP can’t understand that it needs to enlarge its tent to include more moderates in the more blue states to have any chance there. Seems pretty obvious.

I can’t speak about other places - but a Republican in NYC is probably a Democrat in most other places. They are already pretty moderate. Last time around Sliwa ( a non-Trump supporter) beat Fernando Mateo ( a Trump supporter) for the Republican primary. Sliwa didn’t lose because he’s MAGA- he lost maybe partly because he’s Republican but mostly because of his history. (which includes living in a studio apartment with 15 or so cats)

Since they are ruling the country without those blue states they don’t see much need to change.

You may as well ask why the Ds aren’t lurching aggressively rightward to capture that elusive and ever-moving “center” that’s far to the right of where they are now.
