Wasn’t NYC planning (pre-9/11) on celebrating its subway’s 100th anniversary? I guess that’s all cancelled? Anyone heard anything about this?
I just heard the Chief Curator of the NYC Transit Museum speak this weekend. The centennial is in 2004, and he is hoping that the WTC crisis will not “derail” the celebration.
He did say that a plan to restore the original City Hall “loop” station – the station where the system was inaugurated in 1904 – to public use had been put on hold at the request of the Mayor’s Office. Little wonder… the station is located directly under City Hall/City Hall Park.
