So I see the NYCTA ads in the subway station saying the brochure outlining services changes is now available. Cool, I think, now I can see if I guessed right: that they are going to start a train somewhere on the current Queens E/F/G/R line but have it split off before Queens Plaza, hook through the connection to 63rd Street tunnel, do Roosevelt Island and Lex/63rd, then go through the not-currently-in-use connector that goes under Central Park and comes out on the Broadway line at 57th St; do a Broadway express service down to Canal Street; then over the Manhattan Bridge to Brooklyn, where it could join any of many existing lines.
Well, it would appear from the brochure that I got the Canal St connection part right, but–despite them having played with rerouting the F through the 63rd St connector for a couple months during the off-hours–there’s no sign of a cohrent plan for the upper end, no train officially as of yet branching at that point in that manner; they aren’t, as of yet, doing anything to alleviate overuse of the E/F line in Manhattan, which I thought was the original intention.
So I call their info number and ask if they have a plan posted somewhere showing the eventual intended route once all the interim construction is over and done with, and…they DENIED HAVING A PLAN!
“We have no idea where or how we may route trains in the future, changes are constantly being made in response to need, we don’t know how it will look later on, blah blah blah…”
Yeah, right. OK, does anyone know where the Top Secret For Your Eyes Only transit plans might be found? I’m just curious, but I’d like to see how close my guess is, and there’s no way they are spending so much time and money just randomly building new tunnels with no plan in mind! Or at least (speaking as a taxpayer) I sure hope not…
