I think I tried that three or four times.
Glad I wasn’t the only one.
After I get to “Genius” level I usually go over to the Spelling Bee Solver page and look at the stats at the top to see how many pangrams there are and whether there’s a bingo, and then if I’ve missed a pangram or haven’t completed an existing bingo (as I didn’t today), I go back and look for what I’ve missed.
You can hide the actual words (because you’re only cheating yourself), but also there’s an option to “show disallowed matches” in the word list, listing words that for whatever reason the puzzle doesn’t take. Today’s list contains a heckuva lot of words I tried that weren’t accepted, including COCO, COLL, COLLED, CONDUCE, CONDUCED, CUDDED, DEUCED, DOLCE, DUCE, DULCE, ENCLOUD, ENCLOUDED, LOCULE, UNCLONED, UNCLOUD, UNCLOUDED, and UNCOOLED. Really quite frustrating.
Today’s Spelling Bee had a lot of words; 72 in total. Thirty just beginning with CO.
Why not just use the Spelling Bee Hints or the Spelling Bee Buddy to see how many pangrams? Or are you going to the solver so that you can view the disallowed matches?
Because I am clueless, really.
For a game that often excludes Britishisms (lorry, abbatoir, etc.), today’s pangram, which is quite common in the UK, but much, much less so in the US, was unexpected.
While lots of Britishisms are excluded, lorry is not one of them. It’s come up in a number of puzzles.
Personally, I (an American) had no problem completing today’s puzzle. By “completing” I mean getting to QB. I didn’t even need the hints today.
I like the layout of Shunn’s page better than the NYT hints page. However, after I get to Genius, I usually go to the Spelling Bee Buddy to get to QB. Today, I only had three words left and got to QB as soon as I saw the two-letter combos at the Buddy.
Sorry, bad example. IIRC, lorry was disallowed early on, but was added to the word list later. Am I right about that?
I think that’s right, yes.
Although today I was amused that it accepted click and clack.
Duotrigordle is another bad one for using obscure words among the answers you’re looking for.
I just completed today’s puzzle and it included kanji and haram among its answers.
Finally, it accepts
Summary
prion
Double spoiled, cheaters.
It’s accepted that one before, although for a long time it was not. It was brought up in this thread earlier.
I must have missed it. It drove me nuts that the work wasn’t accepted.
Yeah, it’s easy to lose track. I still expect ‘antifa’ to be rejected even though it’s been accepted four times after being rejected the first four times.
Prion is fairly recent addition, November 2022. It’s been cool three times after being disallowed the first seven times is was a possible word.
Iliad used to be accepted, but no more.
How can it accept glia but not glial?
Was just going to post the same thing - seems like an odd omission, considering.
Also not accepted: GILA and LIANA, neither of which are obscure.
Yeah, they never accept GILA.
