NYT Spelling Bee drives me crazy

What earns you a Queen Bee?

Getting 100% of the words.

The QB score is double or double minus 1 of the Amazing score so you have a good idea if you are close if you keep going after Genius.

In case you don’t know, four letter words are one point, all other words are one point for each letter that they contain with a seven point bonus if it’s a pangram.

I guess I didn’t realize that one could continue past the Amazing point.

I assume you mean Genius there, since there’s nothing stopping you from going past Amazing. When the screen comes up telling you you’ve reached Genius, there’s a place to click labeled “Keep Playing” in the upper right corner. Click that and you can keep going. You’ll get another screen for Queen Bee if you ever reach that.

GOLDMINING would have been a great pangram

Tried it!

In the same vein (sic) I tried DURANGO the other day. Not accepted, obvs, but would have been a perfect pangram (the actual one being AGROUND).

Sunday’s Spelling Bee accepted CYCLIC, CYCLICAL, and CYCLICALLY, as well as ACYCLIC, but not ACYCLICAL or ACYCLICALLY.

Yeah, and I try it every time.

As for today, BIOLAB is right there in Merriam-Webster, don’t strain yourself omitting it, Sam.

Monday: no DIABOLO (or alternative spelling DIABLO).

Just hit Genius but what’s notable is that it was DILDO that put me over the top.

Got to Genius after some struggle, then went on to get three Pangrams, 43 words and 222 points, but no QB.

The number of pangrams is a (mild) spoiler. I don’t want to know how many there are. No big deal but I’d appreciate it if you’d hide that sort of thing in the future.

There should be 269 or 270 total points for QB. Don’t give up.

same.

Oopsy. It didn’t appear that people were posting scores and such in the thread. I’ll do better.

I’m 7 points from QB without using hints. Very disappointed the last word is not COPEPOD.

Gack! There are more than 7 points?? Can you spoil that next time?

:winking_face_with_tongue:

And what, pray tell, is wrong with ADIABATIC? Not cromulent enough?

If TRIAD is acceptable, why not TRIADIC?

Still no ADIT.
