What evidence is there that Obama is liberal? I’d rate him as a center to right Democrat in the mold of Bill Clinton. I’d even say he’s to Nixon’s right.
Neither Obama nor either Clinton is one inch to the left of the center, more’s the pity, and Sanders ain’t gonna be nominated. What are you so afraid of?
If only! What we have now is a center-right corporate-friendly party and a far-right batshit-crazy party. There’s a great gaping space on the left waiting to be filled.
Trouble is, you’re comparing someone who has principles to someone who did not.
Obama is a radical centrist. He actually believes that stuff about compromise, working with the Dark Side to cobble together an accord. Only possible explanation for someone who keeps reaching across and getting slapped for it.
And, as everybody knows, America is basically a center right, conservative country. No need to prove that because everybody knows it.
But at least the far right one isn’t corporate friendly anymore.
I don’t think any corporate executives are interested in being summoned to the White House and told to “bring jobs back to America” or else. Even leftists aren’t that bold.
Cite? Come on, there’s gotta be at least one liberal spokesperson who can corroborate this bold proclamation.
As for me…I was a registered Republican who grew up and realized that the GOP does not govern conservatively, and that the Democratic party was the big tent where sensible, fact based decisions were being made. I was never required to believe everything the Democrats said (nor do I), and nobody has ever made me (a straight white male with American ancestry going back before the American revolution) feel bad about myself. Perhaps it would help to actually listen to “liberals” when they speak, instead of what people who hate liberals tell you liberals say when they speak.
We had some Marxist studies students and faculty at my college who would talk like that, but in the 30 years since i’ve never encountered this attitude you find so upsetting. I certainly have never heard a Democratic politician describe society as a hierarchy of “victim” groups.
Okay, we’ve got a thread about how Joe Biden, were he to run for president, would be just as vulnerable on ethical scandals as Hillary, one about how Ross Perot’s candidacy in 1992 didn’t help Clinton as some have claimed, and one about how Bernie Sanders thinks the investigation into Clinton’s e-mails should continue.
Are there any particular posts we should be looking to for evidence of your Clinton fanboy views? So far, I’m not seeing it.
Seems divisive to never miss an opportunity to fan the fading embers of racism back into flames.
…and just recently, we had a Harvard professor declaring that Conservative Christians should be persecuted! How long before that sentiment becomes part of the mainstream Dem platform? Shouldn’t they also qualify as “victims”?
You’re the guy who ruins all the magic tricks by looking at the other hand, aren’t you?
How exactly does he do that? By being black in the White House?
Sigh. Cite?
In reality, or in a paranoid conservative fantasy?
Come on, man…quotes, facts, citations…I know you can do it!
I’m going to go with “never.” And my prediction is just as valid as yours.
No. Being a victim is bad, remember?
Those threads bolster and stand up for the Clintons against common ideas and talking points used against them. I actually argued that Biden had no biz running, and Bernie shoulda stayed away from the emails.
I get it…I’m one of those “evil” DLC/“corporatist”/Third Way Dems some want purged.
No you aren’t – unlike you, the vast majority of those Democrats have no problem with Obama’s background and identity (and don’t routinely call him by his middle name for no discernible reason), don’t question his patriotism, and don’t routinely make up things about him that just so happen to match the fantasies of right-wing radio nutjobs.
I only call him by his middle name to irk the people who condone some of his big time foreign policy blunders. I don’t actually care that his dad was a Muslim or his skin color.
Its his view of the world, not his background, I have a problem with. Also, I’m not a professional Democrat, so I can say things professional pols can’t; I would bet the professional Dems who voted (not merely said they supported/opposed it) against the Iran deal as it came out in 2015, the Dems who opposed Syrian refugees, and the Dems who went to see Bibi, might feel similarly to me but can’t say it. Also, what about the Democrats who voted for Obama in 2008, but voted for Romney or stayed home in 2012? What about that 10% of Jewish voters who switched in that interval? Obama won a similar Jewish vote in 2008 as Gore/Kerry, but dropped 10% in Jewish vote in 2012.
DerekMichaels00 - Given that you’re a Democrat, can we forget about Obama and the Clintons for a moment, and can you name some Democrats who are currently in office that you support and admire? Do you have Democratic representation in Congress or a Democratic governor that you have voted for? Currently active Democrats whom you feel are not divisive and are taking the country in the right direction?
Steve Israel and Chuck Schumer, Bob Menendez, Kathleen Rice, Bob Menendez, are prob my favs. Right on most domestic policy and foreign policy (like Iran deal and refugees)
No, it’s the false fantasy version of Obama’s view of the world. His actual view of the world, based on what he’s actually said and done, has virtually nothing to do with the fantasy stuff you seem to think he believes.
Thanks for responding. I can see where you are definitely on the more conservative side of the party, especially when it comes to foreign relations, but at least it provides some foundation for understanding your views.
