I have an Indian friend who owns a video store and he goes by the name Bobby. I’ll have to check if his given name is Piyush.
Eh, that’s pretty silly and petty. Jindal and Obama both faced issues of identity and fitting in, typical of many immigrants. Later there is the coming to adulthood and establishing your own identity, and that means different things to different people. Obama decided to embrace is given name, Barack. When Barry Became Barack There were numerous factors that played a role, some of them the issues that blacks were facing at the time. Ultimately, he decided he liked being Barack.
Jindal had different circumstances and made a different choice. He has decided to remain “Bobby” Jindal. There’s nothing wrong with that, any more than Clinton going by “Bill” even though his given name was “William”.
Well, I know a guy commenting that his given name is Danny, but people keep tryng to call him Daniel. But in Carter’s case, he grew up being down-home Jimmy Carter, and that’s a part of his self identity. Even being President didn’t stop him from being down-home Jimmy.
Given name “Piyush”, Piss, Puss, or Piss-ass all come to mind as things that would have been likely. Of course he could have just gone by P.J.
now see… i was thinking pi as in the number thing, not a food item. i do understand that piyush would open up quite the can of worms on the school yard (nectar even worse). pj is very workable.
sometimes you just have to grow into your name and sometimes your name grows on you. then sometimes you have to just find a name that fits and you can live with… like indiana.
