You are not wrong. She was born in Moldova (then part of the USSR) in 1960, emigrated to Israel at age 21, and to the US six years later.
One would hope so, since there is no spot for the race of the newborn, but there is for each parent.
It does make sense. But that may have been a standard entry for blacks in Hawaii at that time. Perhaps one of our ~50-year-old SDMB members from the mainland who happen to be differently ethnicitalized from us can enlighten us as to what’s on their original birth certificate.
That is actually the word I believe she would like to use, but I was raised better than that. Well, i wasn’t actually but I try to shake that off now that I am an adult.
The reason that the birth certificate identifies his father as African is not because that was the standard but because that’s what the parents said. From Factcheck.org: “why is Obama’s father’s race listed as “African”? Kurt Tsue at the DOH [Hawaii Department of Health] told us that father’s race and mother’s race are supplied by the parents, and that ‘we accept what the parents self identify themselves to be.’”
As bizarre as this issue is, what she says rings true. No one was using the term “African” when Obama was born. Black, Negro and Colored were the descriptors of the day.
Does she have any other examples of birth certificates from the same source? Unless or until she can nail down this thing, maybe she should just shut up.
I think Obama should, on his last day in office, tell everyone he wasn’t and isn’t an American. He was voted into office illegally. And then say, “So what? What can you do about it now?”
The man is the President. Personally I could care less where he was born. I’d be delighted if he was a mushroom at this point if he would fix the economy and get us out of Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. So maybe he can’t fix the economy on his own. He could pull our military out of the ME. Do that, and he’s a successful President in my book.
Hawai’i also probably has a unique issue surrounding race. People are so mixed, racially, that it would make sense to just put down whatever the parents say. I don’t suppose you could get away with that in the South in the 60s.

If my name was Orly Taitz, I’d try to live my life as quietly as possible, instead of drawing attention to myself. Were her parents fond of French airports?
I wish Snoop Dogg was the first black president… what a bust to have our “first black president” as Obama… I don’t know much about Obama or care to… I wanted him in office over the other guy, but come on man, you ain’t black!!
