What is the “gun show loophole” of which you speak? In my experience, dealers at shows are required to call your information in to the BATF before making the sale.
I agree with the OP in that if BO does what is being suggested, it’d be a dick move.
But I think making a politically huge, unilateral, constitutionally questionable move would be extraordinarily out of character. Maybe Biden misspoke, maybe it’s just a warning shot, more than likely BO’s got something else up his sleeve. Like pointing out the roots of gun violence are more like unchecked mental illness (suicides as well as murders) and other causes like gang violence or whatever. A more appropriate application of executive power would be to broaden his healthcare plan and redirect the drug war funds to gun purchase screening, anti-gang police & social work, etc.
I don’t see anything there about gun control. Biden said that the President is going to try to do something to prevent mass shootings. Why do you jump from there to concluding that it’s going to be gun control? Do you know something the rest of us don’t, about gun control being the best way to stop mass shootings?
I doubt any legislation he would try and pass by executive order would be very far reaching. I am no fan of Obama but I say wait and see wha he has in mind.
I’ve never been to a gun show. But, some loophole allowing sales has been in the news non-stop for weeks. From what I’ve read they are referring to private sales at the gun shows. I bought mine from a big Internet store because they had a better selection of stock than my local dealer. But, I still had to pick it up at the local dealer and do all the paperwork. Took about 30 minutes and not a big deal at all. I rushed and bought my Ruger 380 LCP last month because I knew the process would be a bigger PITA after Obama does his thing.

When people stop selling kits to change AR-15’s (we need .223 ammo WHY?) into full auto, we can talk about not needing restrictions.
When the “dealers” at “gun shows” don’t recognize certain words to mean “the stuff in your trunk, not the stuff on the table”, we can talk about not needing restrictions.

If you really need 14 rounds in your “self protection” weapon, you are making WAY too many enemies - and are NOT the kind of person I’d want to have a slingshot.
And anyone who cites Fox as a source of unpublished info re upcoming Presidential Orders on firearm control is another person who probably has too many fantasies of being a hero with his mighty gun.
What frustrates me is the biggest problem isn’t being addressed. There’s many people out there trying to take care of somebody that is borderline dangerous. Like the mom caring for her son before the Sandy Hook shooting. She apparently didn’t have any resources to get him treated. He wasn’t crazy enough to commit to a hospital. At least he didn’t seem to be until he shot her in the face multiple times and then went to that school.
There’s no easy answers here. A 30 day committee with Biden isn’t going to solve this. But, something has to be done. From what I read, that Sandy Hook shooter seemed sane. He probably would pass any new gun sale screening that’s put in place. No one knew he was dangerous until it was too late.
I bought a pistol at a gun show with no calls or oversight.
The guy did want cash, and lowered the price when I wanted to write a check.
I do wonder how many of these mass killers bought things at gun shows.

The actual statements come nowhere close to the thread title, of course. There’s not much Obama can do by executive order, and a statement by Biden that they are thinking about stuff but haven’t decided on anything doesn’t add up to very much.

I’m sure the people who committed those 500+ murders in Chicago last year are quaking in their shoes. Yes, lets add more laws to the thousands of Federal and state laws regarding guns…and see if criminals are affected by them. My guess is there won’t be any effect upon criminals…they will happily go on killing.
