But...Obama Was Going To Take All The Guns!

Well today Obama issued very sensible Executive Orders to help try and contain gun violence. More needs to be done, but its a start. But I am thoroughly confused. The gun fetishists had said Obama was going to take all the guns away and he didn’t. It’s almost as if their paranoid hyperbole is just that.

And when is Obama going to address the scourge of video games terrorizing our neighborhood!

I’m actually shocked, and delighted, that Obama and the State of New York are trying to do something. Will it do any good? Maybe not, but at least they’re making an effort. It’s a good first step. Hopefully some other states will follow suit.

It’s hard to pay attention to reality when you’re busy gunsturbating like a motherfuck.

The gunhumper crowd has been screaming that The Kenyan was going to seize all their guns since he was first elected. The only actions the Obama administration took in the first four years were to strengthen gun owner rights, but everybody just knew

Proof that gunpowder smoke lowers IQ.

Biden carefully avoided pointing a finger at video games. I suspect it’s largely because he couldn’t do so without also pointing at movies, and that would displease his Hollywood masters.

He didn’t talk about video games because it has fuckall to do with it.

No, no. The last thing he wanted to do was piss off Clooney and Streisand, the Puppeteers.

It’s only the first step of course. We’re going to slide down that slippery slope until President-For-Life Muhammad Obama will take away all guns and knives and Bibles and white women.

You are, of course, correct that games have nothing to do with it. Nevertheless, he met with game industry reps while formulating his recommendations, so games must have been on his mind at that point. There have been too many attempts to blame video games for me to trust politicians to behave rationally about them.

There really isn’t a place for reasonable gun owners who also want stricter laws (like myself). The hysteria and melodrama actually make it harder to buy guns than the laws.

Case in point. Two years or so ago when my SO and I became gun owners we wanted to join a local range and get involved in the gun community. However we coud not join a single one. Every single range around here was packed full and every owner told us that since Obama was elected, people were so terrified he was going to take all their guns, they joined in droves.

Ammunition has also consistently been difficult to come by, as well as magazines, for the same reasons. And right now I wouldn’t even attempt to buy anything, with the hysteria that’s been happening in the last few days.

Yeah! When I was younger, a bunch of video games ganged up on me and took all my quarters!

Well, sort of. According to Brian Crecente, Obama is calling for the CDC to investigate the causes of gun violence and to see if there’s any links between gun violence and violent video games (and other media), as part of the broader studies he wants the CDC to do. He’s calling for congress to provide $10 million for research.

Like Balance, I’m a little gun-shy of video game “research”, but I’m a big fan of Science, so I guess I don’t mind if we can maybe see about promoting some.

Oh good, another circle jerk thread.

Who actually proposed that Obama was going to confiscate all guns in the US by executive fiat?

Or could that have been a supremely hyperbolic misrepresentation by you lying douchebags?

I just came from the Hannity forums where they’re claiming that this is just the first step in the Leftist Plot to Confiscate All Guns.

There’s some hyperbole being slung around, but it ain’t on the Left.

Really, some random unnamed guy on the fucking Sean Hannity forum is your evidence that all gun rights advocates believe that Obama was going to somehow single handedly take all guns out of the US?

For fucks sake, even your ridiculous example isn’t hyperbolic. “First step” could mean he thinks it’s the first of dozens of small encroachments on gun ownership in the US that’ll occur over the next century.

This is nothing but the exact same circle jerk all of you idiots are engaging in, attacking these ridiculous straw targets and then patting yourselvs on the back to convince each other that you’re right.

Well, the 23 actions are spectacularly unspectacular.

Improve the background check system. Provide training to LEOs for active shooter situations. Require the FBI to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations. Provide incentives for schools to get officers. Research gun violence gun safety technologies and review gun lock/safe standards. Improve and standardize mental health care options.

Truly history’s greatest monster. Good thing I stocked up on AR-15s.

You say this as if such circular social activity is a bad thing.

How about Senator Rand Paul?

ETA: Someone’s been fueling this talk, for the past four years, about Obama getting ready to take away everyone’s guns - and it hasn’t been the left, OK? We’d been thinking about practically everything else but, until massacres like Aurora and Newtown forced us to realize we can’t ignore this any longer.

Goddamn, where are you coming from?

You clearly don’t spend much time on Facebook.

Sounds like he’s taking a principled stance against the abuse of executive orders rather than a prediction that Obama was going to send in the gun removal death squads tomorrow.
