Well, he wasn’t saying, “I expect Obama to do no more than fully enforce existing laws and make valid use of his Article II powers with his executive orders,” was he? He was fueling the expectation that Obama was going to act by fiat.
And Obama did act by fiat, just not a sweeping massive gun confisciation program unlike anything this country has ever seen. Which no one seriously predicted.
You guys are simply lying. In a circle jerk, no one else calls out anyone else for lying. I’m here to be the sand in your jerk cream.
Wow, how principled. Uh huh. I agree with what was said up thread. If you don’t believe this has been a common theme amongst the general populace, than you haven’t been paying attention. That’s why this board alone has been overrun with gun debates and the public has been buying guns like prohibition started yesterday. Disingenuous indeed, but it ain’t the “circle jerkers” (jerkees? jerkii?).
You know, you are the living embodiment of all the dumb things people say about gun owners: you can’t stop talking about dicks and jerking off and how everybody else is a wimp.
People have been buying up guns that are actually under consideration for banning in the legislature.
You can’t simultaneously hold the position “gee I hope that assault weapons ban currently in congress makes it through” and “oh those crazy gun nuts, thinking that people are going to try to ban certain guns, and now they’re rushing out to buy them. How silly and paranoid”
Really? Talking about a circle jerk on a message board, which everyone clearly knows what it means and can be used in all sorts of context, is a gun nut thing now?
I didn’t call everyone else a wimp. I never proclaimed my own manliness. I was actually rather careful in my wording, but what I actually said doesn’t seem to actually matter to anyone.

You are mouthing off a lot, but Sitnams link seems to answer your question very well. Am I missing something, or why are you still slabbering about people being liars?
I’ve been an NRA member for more than 25 years. About 10-12 years ago I decided they would never get another dime of my money while Wayne LaPierre was in charge.
Funny the disconnect between what the members of the NRA actually support and the fearmongering pathos of the nutball in charge. Unfortunately, the board voting process is and always has been rigged by the old boy network and is pretty much impossible to change without a serious revolution. One I foresee coming in about 10 years.
Conspiracy is a hyperbolic word and quite dumb to use here. But it’s true that Obama laid low on gun control during his first term, and now suddenly he’s taking up the cause in his second.
And if you say “oh, that’s because of the school shooting!” then either you think that Obama is a big fucking asshole who doesn’t care about the 10,000 gun homicides every year but suddenly cares about 20, or it was his intentional all along but he had to ride the right public hysteria to push it - just like 9/11 at the Patriot act.
Again, hyperbolic, but “get busy dismantling and destroying our firearms freedom” does not mean that he thought Obama would literally ban all guns by executive order. He probably meant that Obama could do what he could - cheerlead through Congress whatever gun control legislation he thought might pass - and that’s actually what’s going on here.
The makeup of the supreme court is sort of a long term consideration, not exactly the sort of thing you’d be concerned about when a dictator decided to outlaw all guns one day.
So I construe his words to mean that Obama would law low in his first term, and then actively begin persuing a gun control agenda in his second, enacting whatever restrictions he could in the current political climate. Not that he was going to ban them all by decree.
So as to this thread, the point of the OP was “haha gun owners, you thought all guns would be banned today and they aren’t, you’re all idiots!” is wrong. People didn’t actually think that. People just thought Obama would start working to restrict gun ownership, and he actually has done that.
No, this is 23, and it doesn’t include mention of assault weapons or ammunition magazines. If anyone is upset about the CDC doing research, you really need to check your outrage meter.
This kind of thing really pisses me off. It’s just meant to demonize the opposition:
“It’s not about protecting your children. It’s not about stopping crime. It’s about banning your guns … PERIOD!”
Um, no, it’s not. Maybe there’s a portion of people for whom that’s what it’s about, but right after a plethora of nationally publicized gun killings, most people are just horrified and want to know how to make it right, and how to prevent more.
ETA: The research thing is even weirder. Of course there should be research, and detailed data, about everything. How can we do anything about anything without knowing what’s happening?
