Since the legislative and executive branches of our government will be handcuffed by each other for the next 2 years, will we see more of Obama using his Executive privileges? What else can we expect (in addition to overhauling immigration policy)?
Ooh, wrong forum. Can a mod move this to IMHO or Elections?
It all depends how motivated Obama is.
For quite some time, he’s seemed bored with the job of President. If he’s still bored with the job, the next two years will pass quietly.
But MAYBE the mid-term elections angered him enough to re-energize him. If so, he’ll elect to go down swinging, and things could get interesting.
We’ll see.
He could make a lot of foreign trips.
Sadly, I predict a lot of posturing by Obama to prep the next democrat for the 2016 election. Obama will pick issues he knows the GOP are opposed to but that demographics the democrats need to win are in favor of. Immigration reform, climate control, net neutrality, minimum wage, income inequality, etc. as those appeal to poor people, non-whites, millennials, etc. who tend to not to bother to vote and who the democrats need to win.
He will make a big dog and pony show of wanting to do something about those issues, the GOP will stop him in congress and he will use (executive action to get those things passed. But only enough for posturing, I don’t expect him to do anything truly meaningful with his executive power, just enough to posture and rile up the democratic base so they vote in 2016.
There’s enough Publicans want to kick his legacy in the crotch he’ll be lucky he doesn’t end up a ruptured duck, too.
Can you point to some of the things that have led you to that belief?
