You could very much read it as “Based on my briefings, they’re all in above-ground facilities where they work when they’re not in the orbital or lunar facilities. No underground facilities were mentioned. Which would be ludicrous, right, because how are they supposed to photosynthesize underground? Lot of nutty theories out there, I can tell you that much for certain.”

I guess it depends on whether you go from the formation of the first bits of crust or from the end of the late heavy bombardment. But even the former seems like it would be 600 million years not 800.

There are a number of things on Mars for which life is one hypothesis, but there are still enough things to rule out that we can’t say that we’re “pretty sure” that any of them are life.
That said, the absence of evidence on Mars is also not evidence of absence. You have to look pretty thoroughly to find fossils even on Earth, and early life (the sort that might have existed on Mars) is much less likely to fossilize than life with bones, shells, or other hard mineral bits. Even if there were life on ancient Mars, it’d be no surprise not to find it.
Because no matter how smart brilliant and educated you are, if you say ONE thing that some people think is stupid, that comment will negate anything else you ever said/did/wrote/thought, and you will be remembered for that alone.

Life could be single celled organisms. It could be insects or creatures with exoskeletons. It could have internal skeletons. Intelligent life could be people living in caves. It could be that after technology develops, there is always eventually someone even worse than el donald that ruins it for everyone with a nuclear war.
Maybe I’m just not following the same social sites as you, but I haven’t seen people claiming everything else Obama has said in the past is stupid based on this one comment about aliens (which, by the way I don’t think was stupid, we just can’t call it definitively correct).
I think it was pretty obvious what he meant, even before the qualifiers. If he said ghosts are real or angels are real, no one would be thinking he has proof.
I don’t think Fox News is wrong here. If an extraterrestrial showed up during the Obama Admin, I’m sure they’d let them in without even a visa. Same for the Biden Admin. I can’t say the same for the Trump Admin…
I just want to make it clear that I was joking. I have no idea whether anyone at Fox News has commented on Obama’s musings on aliens. We live in absurd times, so I cannot blame you for taking my absurd statement at face value.
