In this thread, Liberal refers to a statement by Barack Obama wherein he, says Liberal, denounces statements previously made by the now notorious Reverend Wright. There is no need, says Liberal, to link to this statement; the implication being that anyone who has a pulse will have heard it by now.
Unfortunately, the reality is that for those of us who may find ourselves separated from our computer for a couple days, and thus come into this thread well after the fact, such a link is, in fact, necessary. And as each day progresses, and everyone who considers himself an expert on such matters adds his opinion to the babble, searches for the original source material become muddier and muddier.
And since this can only get worse with time, it strikes me as, well, best practices, to include such a link, as it were, filed for posterity along with the original thread.
In any case, I posted such a sentiment in the thread in question. That is, I think I did, but there’s been no evidence that anyone other than me has seen any such post. So I turn to the ever reliable resource of GD: can someone with more time (and yet more skill) than I please filter their way through the nearly infinite responses a youtube search such as “obama denounces wright” produces and point me to Obama’s original statement? All I can find are responses to his response, and further responses to those response; I can’t make my way back upstream to the original source.
Why did you put this in GD, Calibri, even though the OP mistakenly posted it elsewhere? I ask this sincerely. Honest.
lissener seems to be bereft of a radio. newspaper, and TV. He only asks Dopers for a link to Obama’s denunciation of Wright - a video and/or transcript.
Well he got the NYT linky, but since then he has been mute. And no one else has argued pro or con because there is nothing to debate.
I did. And I still wonder why, in spite of it, why you didn’t place it in MPSIMS or In My Humble Opinion?
If someone puts an OP in GD in which he rants improperly, you’d put it—and very properly so—in the Pit.
Just because lissener wanted his OP in GD doesn’t make it automatically apply. You read that one sentence and passed judgement. Read the rest of the OP, please.
