Considering which forum this is in, my humble opinion is that any president does not deserve full credit or blame for the deficits that happen (or not) on his watch. With that in mind, Obama inherited the tax structure and a lousy economy from the previous administration, spent to mitigate the crisis, and would like to go forward with more budget discipline than any Republican president of the last 30 years.

Okay, I’ll tell you what is actually happening.
Obama hardly drove the debt to record levels. The current debt is due to Bush tax cuts, the reduced revenue from the recession*, the wars and the Stimulus**.
*If there is a recession the government pulls in less money.
**The stimulus was necessary and it averted a depression.
