Obama Sets Up Commission To "Fight" The Deficit!

I’m proud not to have paid one thin dime in county, state, or federal US taxes, be they of the income, sales, or property variety! And I think raising Rand Rover’s taxes is a grand idea!

But seriously, care to explain to us morons how you come to the conclusion that posters to this thread think raising taxes would be a fine thing based on what they’ve said in this thread? I just see a lot of people mocking the OP for complaining that Obama wants to do something about the deficit.

Everyone here pays taxes, and Obama has CUT your taxes, douchebag.

Don’t let them get to you, Ralph. Until you bravely launched this thread, I had no idea that Obama was such an evil, devious creature. Rest assured that I will vote for whichever gormless prat the Republicans choose to throw at me in 2012, and it’s all because of those three little lines you honed to a diamond-hard brightness. Behold the power of the post!

Well, not his taxes! RR makes $800,000 dollars a year as a mail clerk in a tax attorney office! No cuts for him!

Why, he spends more in Dijon mustard than you will make in a year! Grovel before his mighty imaginative earnings!

Follow the cow anuses!

Obama has raised the deficit!
You can blame the debt on Bush and everyother president going back to FDR. But the question I want to ask is would this comission make any lasting impact? Will they get a Balanced Budget amendment passed? Will they reform the majority of our budget items like social security and defense?

Cite?

Suppose Obama had gone on TV and said, “You know, I’m going to let the deficit sit right where it is. Maybe let it rise a little. Whatever.” Would that have caused you to shit your pants more or less than you did when he took the opposite course of action?

At least you’re going in to this with an open mind.

Isn’t this commission the (inferior) replacement for what was meant to be a Congressional commission? One with teeth (potentially anyway, as it would have had legislative branch backing)?

IIRC, that couldn’t be done because the Republicans wouldn’t play nice…so Obama had to do it as an executive order type thing.

now your cooking

Meh. Coherence is overrated.

Dear RR,

Our tax bill was $30,000 this year, combining state and federal.

I’m fine with an increase in taxes, because it’s fucking necessary to pay for all the shit our last President got us into.

They really shouldn’t allow internet access at your group home.

You may not like the guy’s politics, but a major reason he took on health reform is that the vast majority of our countries long term fiscal debt is due to health care. The social security ‘crisis’ is minor compared to what will happen in the next 75 years with medicare and medicaid.

So making health care more efficient is one of the most important things we can do to remain fiscally solvent long term.

If you ignore all taxes except the federal income tax (which makes up about 30% of total tax receipts), then yes about 50% of people don’t pay ‘taxes’. But only if you choose to ignore all taxes except the federal income tax. You have to ignore state income tax, medicare taxes, social security taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, fuel taxes, corporate taxes, capital gain taxes, etc.

Also if you refuse to classify any vehicle that isn’t a Toyota or Ford as a ‘car’, then about 2/3 of Americans don’t own ‘cars’. That is the talking point you are making. If you get to define ‘tax’, and ignore any tax you don’t want to count, it is easy to pretend 50% of people don’t pay ‘taxes’.

It is insane how far the GOP has sunk in their manipulation. And nobody calls them on it. A minute of fact checking shows this talking point isn’t true and is highly manipulative but people still repeat it endlessly on the right. Where is our media? It sucks.

Either way, your taxes are up. The bush tax cuts are repealed in 2011, and there are new medicare taxes at 3.8% for higher incomes. And it’ll get worse. yay.

I don’t know. Maybe we should get **Shodan **in here to remind us.

Do you not think Bush’s tax cut while starting 2 wars did not contribute to the debt? Do you not think greasing the off shoring of American jobs contributed? Do you not think spending 2 trillion, presumably to save the economy was a factor.
Obama is a grown up. He recognizes that the debt has to be brought under control. That is like Clinton did.
Reagan said. Debts don’t matter. Bush and Cheney said debts don’t matter. Then they governed like they believed it. Obama knows they do matter and he intends to deal with it. If you care about the debt ,you should be heartened by his plans. Otherwise you are a blind republican tool unable to see the truth.

Yes! Please don’t throw us in the briar patch!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A26402-2004Jun8?language=printer Here is Cheney saying Reagan proved the debt does not matter. If you are blaming the Dems, you are digging in the wrong spot. Bush and Cheney were Reaganites on the debt.
And what party were they members of?
