LIke I said, darn me for misunderstanding the NPR broadcast.
Dean has been a big proponent bringing the Democratic Party back to its grassroots, he’s pushed a 50 state strategy where the party campaigns in all 50 states and doesn’t write off any states as unwinnable. This is at odds with other people in the party who want a more strategic approach where they pick high value states to compete in and leave other states (much of the south) as unwinnable. Dean seems to be saying that he and Obama agree on the grassroots approach.
And I wouldn’t blame you if you did say, “Never mind.”
It’s Mundane and Pointless. I’m amused at Dean’s comment, and you are treating like political commentary in Great Debates or the Pit.
I’m still not getting it. What was amusing about Dean’s comment (and since when does eye rolling = amusement)?
I think what Dean approves of most is the bold gamble. If Obama fills the stadium, it will be all over the news. If you dug a hole and buried yourself, you could hear the worms talking about it. Its a real good bet, too. If he doesn’t pull it off, it will be costly, the tighty righties will laugh themselves sick if he doesn’t fill the stadium by as few as 10 seats. But that is survivable.
But if he fills that sumbitch, and there are people outside trying to get in? Oh, my!
So would a riot outside the stadium of Obama supporters who couldn’t get seats because the place was full be a good thing or a bad thing for the convention?
Obama has already filled stadiums before. If memory serves me right, he’s already drawn 50 thousand. 75 for the convention wouldn’t be that hard to do, I don’t think.
JFK did it back in the 1960 election. Obama has the same electricity. He’ll fill that stadium and have people standing in the parking lot.
**Yookeroo **, what amused carnivorousplant and excited his rolleyes was the idea that Dean was commending Obama when in reality he was jealous of him for successfully pulling off strategies that Dean himself that initially tried in 2004. Other posters have since argued successfully that Dean was probably being completely sincere, although I personally don’t think it’s beyond the realm of possibility that there’s just a touch of ruefull “There but for the grace of God…” in there somewhere.
He’s had people standing outside before and they didn’t riot. When he gave his speech here at the Xcel Energy center in St. Paul after wrapping up the nomination in June, there were almost as many people outside the arena as in and there weren’t any problems.
Do you mean Kate Janeway the businesswoman, Kathryn Janeway the Star Trek character, or Dr. Katherine Janeway, the oncologist? And in what context do you mean your question (yes, my mind went straight to the gutter because it was a very short trip.)
I thought perhaps a discussion of Hillary or Admiral Janeway would be a bit less contentious. Thanks for the spell check!
Ooooh! I think the 2424 election is totally up for grabs. Janeway is a great canditate, but I don’t suspect Hillary will make a great runingmate as reanimation is not stantard Federation technology.
There was that time travel incident to return Voyager to Earth. Who knows what technology she picked up in the Delta Quadrant? Besides, there is always the possibility of reversing the quantum spin of the tachyon particles echoing from the Democratic convention of 2008, passing the Heisenberg Compensator, and beaming Hillary into the future. Present. Past. Wait a minute…
Do you have any idea how much trilithium that would take?
:raises hands in frustration:
Although if you reverse the polarities on the power couplings a lot less power will be needed. We could just do it.
Nah. Clone her.
Oh, by the way, just wanted to get this out there:
The stadium where the Denver Broncos play their home games (not well, but they do play) is commonly called Mile High Stadium. Yes, the official name is Invesco Field at Mile High, but that’s a really stupid name and Invesco no longer exists, so we natives refuse to acknowledge it in any way. My beloved Denver Post even refers to the place as Mile High Stadium (which is why I love the Post so very much – that and the fact that the man who owns it lives in Denver).
So let’s have no more of that Invesco stuff, okay? Mile High Stadium it shall always be.
Yes it does. But I applaud the way Denver has handled the whole naming situation.
What the …!? I’ve been lied to! I swear, I thought it had been swallowed up in some merger or other, about two years ago! Really, I did!
Crap! It’s still a stupid name for a stadium. Not as stupid as PetSmart or Pet World or whatever, but pretty stupid.
