Obama v. McCain: Effect on small-to-medium business climate

I recently had a talk with a woman who is about to open her own small clothing factory. She went on and on about the importance of creating jobs for people, and is supporting McCain for that reason, because she thinks Obama’s tax and economic policies would create a bad climate for small-to-medium businesspeople like her, lower the number of persons she can employ and reduce their take-home pay. How well-grounded are her concerns?

Powell? Forget the caffiene in your coffee today?

I think Powell and McCain have similar ideas about how to help small businesses. Obama, though, is another matter.

Pretty much. Mods, please fix title.

Well, maybe I’m cynical, but I would imagine that McCain’s policies would closely follow those of the Bush administration, if for no other reason than inertia.

They’ve apparently awarded small business grants to Fortune 500 companies on a regular basis, then tried to cover it up.

Paperwork has increased.

Job growth has been dismal (except for government jobs).

Tax cuts failed to promote economic growth (although, to be fair, you can find reports that claimed they did work to some extent). However, growth has been sluggish at best.

Ineffective tax cuts have contributed mightily to the deficit.

And I don’t have the patience to wade through all this, but manufacturing doesn’t look good and cost of living is increasing faster than wages.

As far as I can tell, the only bright spot in the US economic horizon is that the weak dollar is promoting exports and slightly discouraging imports.
Disclosure: I’m not a Bush fan, so I cherry-picked the discouraging articles. Note, however, that I didn’t have to cherry-pick very hard.

Reported the thread, someone should fix it.

Moderator’s Note: Fixed thread title.

Seems what my friend is mainly concerned with is (what she perceives as) Obama’s tax policy. How will that affect businesspersons in her position? And their employees? Any guesses?
