Obama vs. Fox

Gosh, here we are again. On the one hand, we have Canada and India and 180 media, religious, and secular groups who see the UN Resolution as supporting and encouraging restrictions on freedom of speech.

On the other hand we have Dio who can’t be intimidated who says there is nothing to worry about. Oh, and all of those noted defenders of human rights, the Islamic countries, who agree with Dio that there’s absolutely, positively no reason to be concerned at all.

It’s another of those tough questions — Canada, India, and a combination of religious, media, and secular organizations, or Dio and the Islamic world. I’ll have to think hard about this one.

It doesn’t directly abridge free speech in the U.S. It does say that blasphemy laws are okay for those who want them. As intention said, it gives cover to the nations with the worst human rights conditions to continue persecuting religious opponents. It also flies in the fact of the the western tradition of human rights, which enshrines the right of individuals to speak freely. As such, it should be opposed.

There is no sleight of hand involved. The cite alleged that “politicians of all stripes have been quoting Mao for years. Such as: ‘In the words of Chairman Mao, it’s always darkest before it’s totally black.’ (That was John McCain)”.

This is a direct lie - John McCain was not quoting Mao.

Regards,
Shodan

No it doesn’t.

McCain appears to have believed he was quoting Mao.

The Resolution does nothing. It’s a platitudinous call for religious tolerance. You have nothing to worry about, dog. You can still hate Muslims all you want.

By the way, upthread, you said you were “glad” that Obama is (in your words) a “radical.” What radical things has he done that you’re glad about?

That’s kind of irrelevant as long as he believed he was quoting Mao.

I believe the George Costanza rule comes into effect: It’s not a lie if you believe it.

He didn’t. To any but the willfully blind, it is pretty obvious that it was a joke.

I’ve already cited this -

:shrugs:

You are in the usual “the evidence doesn’t exist and doesn’t matter” mode so it won’t make any difference, but at least this will make your post look even more ridiculous than it already does.

Regards,
Shodan

The quotation is a joke, but there’s no reason to believe taht McCain knew it wasn’t really Mao. You’re kind of making yourself look ridiculous here.

If he insists so on calling McCain a liar, why not just let him?

Voter intimidation by Hoffman supporters. If the Obama Justice Dept fails to land on this horrific crime with both feet, when may we expect intention and Sam to post photos of their respective panties in a twisted knot of outrage?

Cue the crickets…

Dio who cannot be intimidated, I’m tired of giving thoughtful, nuanced answers to your questions only to be answered by your version of “Is not! Is not! Na, na, na, can’t hear you.” Go play your childish games with someone else, I’m not interested.

Can’t answer the question, huh?

I’m upset by voter intimidation from either side of the fence, and I expect credible allegations of intimidation to be seriously investigated and not swept under the rug.

Is that somehow wrong, and if so, how? Other than a gratuitous insult, what is your point here? Cue your own fucking cricket, fool.

One point of clarification. As anyone who read my cartoons understands, I do not hate Muslims. I know Muslims, I’ve worked with Muslims in Muslim countries. By and large they are like me and you, just poor fools whose intentions are good.

On the other hand, I think Islam is a horrific and primitive religion that advocates and practices the stoning of women and other barbaric practices.

But that distinction appears to be lost on Dio … why am I not surprised.

Yes, I can answer it. Perhaps you don’t understand the difference between “can’t answer” and “have no interest in answering a total idiot who thinks simplistic statements mean something.”

Gratuitous? Sunshine, you’ve insulted just about everybody here who dared to disagree with you, you get it back, tough noogies.

As far as the actual matter at hand goes, I would kinda like to see the Justice Dept investigate the persecution of ACORN, I want to lift the rock and see what scurries away from the light. But here’s the thing: as much as that might please me, I can’t honestly say that it rises to the level of a Justice Dept investigation, I want those guys working on serious shit, and not running around poking into every single example of sleazoid politics.

In both cases, I think the local police acted pretty much appropriately, and the matter need go no further.

Your opinions regarding Islam are better left unremarked.

But as for your cartoons, please keep us advised as to possible publication dates, so that I might keep an eye on the remainder table.

For those other than Dio who might be interested in what “radical” things Obama has done that I like, I would say first and foremost he has tried to totally restructure the entire health care system in the US. He has not been successful in getting all that he wanted, but that’s the nature of radical plans. Often it is only possible to implement part of them.

He also came in with a radical idea of working cooperatively with his opponents, both inside and outside of the US. This has had mixed results both inside and outside the US, for a variety of reasons. Domestically, he has been strongly resisted by much less radical Democrats such as those here on this board. These folks keep saying “The Republicans don’t want to work with us, so fuck them and the horse they rode in on.”

This, of course, is the domestic version of Bush’s claim about the Iranians, “The Iranians don’t want to work with us, so fuck them and the horse they rode in on.”

Of course they don’t want to work with us. That’s the problem we’re trying to solve, not a reason to stop trying. Duh …

Reaching out to the opposition means continuing to reach out to them despite your advances being spurned. Hey, if they were the kind of folks who accepted the advances with open arms, we wouldn’t have to reach out in the first place, would we?

OK, that’s enough. Now we can return to our regularly scheduled programming where you can all tell me how terribly wrong I am, that nationalized health care for the US is not a radical change at all, and how it is totally correct to cut off all contact with the Iranians because they have spurned our diplomatic overtures, and what a jerk I am to want to reach out to Iranians and Republicans despite their past history … over to you.

“Please, sir, hit me again!” The way to become irrelevant is to continue cringing before the MINORITY Republicans and watering down good policy because they want to stamp their widdle feets and cwy.

Ignoring Repubicans at this point (at least until we get some sane ones) would be GOOD for the country.
