Obama's VP choice

Here’s one argument made for Rendell.

I see that no one is jumping all over my Kucinich brainstorm.

I tell you, Dio, I think Special K is having such a great time being Dennis Kucinich, I’d hate to see him make the sacrifice.

Yeah, sorry for using the VP choice thread for talking about how people may view a very likely VP.

Any one see The Daily Show tonight with McSame? How about this election-

Obama/Sebelius
vs.
McCain/Clinton

Watch those voting machines…

I tip my bonnet to those of you who are aware of how strong a leader Bredesen is. He has made an incredible Mayor and Governor – liked by both parties. But I don’t know that he has the charisma that the Veep candidate needs.

My choice is William Blaine Richardson. His his background is magnificent! Unlike the pigmentation of his skin, his qualifications go all the way to the bone.

You know, I’m going to quit being white. Just quit.

Maybe not VP(though I certainly wouldn’t object), but how about Kucinich becomes the founding Sec.Peace? As well, and hear me out on this, as it just might be my greatest idea ever…

Press Secretary Elizabeth Kucinich.
…and how can I work to make that happen?

Mark Warner of Virginia would be a shoo-in if he weren’t about to stroll into a Senate pickup for the Dems.

His fellow Virginian Jim Webb wouldn’t be a bad choice, but a lot of people think he’s too “alpha male” for the VP slot.

The problem with Rendell is that he was a big time Clinton backer.

I think Richardson or Sebelius, with Webb still a possibility.

I mentioned earlier that I’m for Richardson.

Here’s how the election should play out. Obama can work the Midwest swing states he’ll try to win. Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Missouri, Iowa.

Richardson then is free to work the swing states of the West. Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado. Plus, he can pick up coverage in Arizona and West Texas, especially on Spanish speaking media. AZ might be competitive in a future race and it would be nice to make Texas at least not completely red.

Hillary’s ABC mouthpiece George Stephanopoulos is sounding out the idea of Hillary as VP.

And I think Hillary’s really been angling for the VP slot for some time now.

(Don’t do it Barack. Too many negatives.)

Ford Jr. is also trying to float the idea, and if the DinoLC is for it, I want no part of it.

As noted in the Fork Hillary thread, remarks like these will not help her cause.

Besides being absolutely false (he improved his numbers with this ‘broad base’ from PA to IN and NC), statements like these are divisive and hurt the party.

Ya know who would make a good VP pick for Obama? Olympia Snowe. How’s that for bipartisanship!

I still think Richardson and his diplomatic skills and experience are better utilized as Sec.State…He is obviously very gifted with that sort of personal straight talk that is needed in that job. When he announced he was running, he was my dark horse pick to win it all, but unfortunately he just didn’t perform to well in the debates, which could bite him(us) again durring the general. Though to his credit, he was very good with the crowds and individuals when he was doing town halls and stumping. Have him in the cabinet for sure, but maybe just not in front of the cameras as much.

No, if you really wanted to go after his region than I think the better pick would be Gov. Janet Napolitano(D-AZ). In addition to all the western states dalej42 mentioned she would also put AZ of all places into play. Imagine pulling AZ out from under McCain?
We also can’t discount the value of having a strong woman on the ticket; I bet there are alot of typically Republican leaning women who are just as anxious to see a women in the White House with out just being a spouse. Just as the draw was enough to keep many sticking by Hillary despite, I think many will also cross over to the Democratic party to see it happen.
She, Napolitano, has her options though; if not Veep, she could move in on, and give McCain a fight for his own Senate seat, or even has the qualifications to be AG, more so than Edwards even.

Just going through this thread, and looking back at the full slate of Presidential candidates on both sides, and many unmentioned elected officials, it is pretty amazing to me the amount of talent the Dems’ have. All on top of the huge of numbers of new voters and people reregistering as Democrats.
As long as people stay vigilant in keeping our elections fair(I guarantee Obama won’t just roll over like Kerry and Gore did) and keep involved and on top of our Pols, I think the future is looking pretty bright right now.

I almost love this idea for a number of reasons, but she is, unfortunately, too hawkish for it to work. How can Obama tout his being against the war from the start and at the same time pick some one who voted for it? Plus she has already publicly supported McCain.

I don’t follow your reasoning. If I was going to vote for someone other than Obama why wouldn’t I tell a pollster that? It is not at all reasonable to infer that everyone voting for McCain is a racist so it makes no sense that people tell pollsters they support Obama to try and look like they are not racists.

The cite was in support of the “that still matters here” statement, not WRT Richardson’s Latino appearance, on which point I did not think there was any doubt, at least not in the U.S.

I suppose such things are simpler in Spain?

VERY true. An earlier endorsment would have almost certainly let Obama check NM as a win, (HRC won by a hair thin margin) and would have gotten at least a couple more of the TX delegates if not a win in the election part of the TX primary.

Oh yeah, I lost track of who asked, but how about Condi Rice as a McCain running mate? Twofer if you will.

Actually, it does happen. If somebody harbors racist inclinations but recognizes it’s wrong and feels guilty about it, they’re more likely to lie to somebody in person (even a total stranger) to conceal it, and then surrender to those feelings in the private security of the polling booth when they actually cast the vote.

Oh there is a laundry list of reasons Condi would not be a good VP. here’s a few .
