Outside of Legacy.com, are there any sites that have good, searchable obituary archives? I know some people are dead per the SSDI, but I need to find obits as further verification for a project I’m working on.

You could search newspaper archives.
Where you would look depends a lot on how long ago the person died and where they died. If you want to pony up a bit more information, I can give you some better suggestions.
There was a huge wave of Polish immigration into the US around WWI. Many settled in Michigan, the Zbiciak clan seeming settling around Flint. That means they were working in the auto factories which were a huge industry at the time.
