Obscure movie trivia.

Not that the movies are obscure but the trivia is.

What actor/actress has starred in the most sequels?

Do the sequels have to be connected? IOW, can he / she have starred in The Godfather II and Rocky II, or does he/ she have to have starred in all the Godfather / Rocky movies?

If the latter, I vote forDesmond Lewellyn - “Q” from the Bond films.

Mickey Rooney appeared in 16 Andy Hardy sequels, plus a Silent Night, Deadly Night sequel, Babe: Pig in the City, That’s Entertainment III, plus some made-for-TV & -video sequels.

How’s about Christopher Lee? A check of his imdb entry shows these sequels, or probable sequels:

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
Crimson Rivers 2: Angels of the Apocalypse
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones
Police Academy: Mission to Moscow
Curse III: Blood Sacrifice
Gremlins 2: The New Batch
The Return of the Musketeers
Howling II: Stirba - Werewolf Bitch
The Return of Captain Invincible
Captain America II: Death Too Soon
Return from Witch Mountain
Airport '77
The Four Musketeers
The Man with the Golden Gun

This doesn’t even count his numerous Sherlock Holmes and Dracula movies, though whether those count as sequels is a matter of definition. At the very least, Lee deserves mention for the sheer range of his appearances.

He didn’t “star” in most of them, though. Is that an important qualification, that the actor in question has to have played a leading role?

Farina Hoskins was in over 100 “Our Gang” shorts.

Well, Reeder ol’ soul, are you going to lay the answer on us? Or is this just a ciliffhanger?

Eddie Murphy.

Hmm, consulting the IMDB, I only count 7 sequels. Even if I’m missing some (let’s round up to, say, 10), it still doesn’t come close to several others already listed—unless you define “starred” as “lead billing”, which, even then, makes him a very debatable answer.

Since it’s the season, here’s some more obscure Oscar trivia:

Who has had more of his films nominated for an Oscar (any Oscar, any category) than any other director?

Whose films have accumulated the most Oscar nominations than any other director?

Which director has had films win the most Oscars in the following categories:

Best Supporting Actress?
Best Cinematography?
Best Sound?
Best Musical Score?
Best Documentary?

Which director has had the most films nominated (but not necessarily win) in the following categories:

Best Actor?
Best Cinematography?
Best Song?

Note that the answers for the 10 questions above will all be different. 10 different directors (some living, some not).

How’s that for obscure!
