Obscure song from an "Our Gang" short

OK, here’s the third time I’ve asked this, but this time I have video!

Here’s a short clip of Froggy singing some song from the “Our Gang” short “Melodies Old and New.” Mickey led off by singing “Oh, Genevieve.” Spanky continued with “Come Back to Erin,” and then Froggy sings. (Buckwheat did not have a song.) The sound quality’s not too good, so here are the lyrics:

*
Oh, what a PAL was Eustace!
Let’s drink a toast to Harvard in his name!.
Oh, what a PAL was Eustace!
In rain of shine I love him just the same.
For we’ve been friends,
Through fair and stormy weather–
Because we went
To different schools together.
And, oh, what a PAL was Eustace!
From my old New Hampshire home in Tennessee.*

Anyway, I’ve at least heard of the other two songs, but have not been able to find the provenance of this one. And I’m not totally sure about “Eustace,” but that’s the closest thing I can come up with.

Anyone???

Oh! What A Gal Was Mary

Oh! what a gal was Mary,
Oh! what a pal was she,
An angel was born on Easter morn,
and God sent her down to me.
Heart of my heart was Mary,
Soul of my soul divine,
Though she is gone, love lingers on,
for Mary old pal of mine.

Possibly a song written by Bradford Browne around 1931. I can’t vouch for this yet. But give me the afternoon.

And possibly Mr. Browne and his comedy troup called the Nit Wits, wrote “Yes, we have no bananas.”

All the songs from Melodies Old and New are listed here.

Froggy sings Oh, What a Pal Was “Whoozis” (1927), music by Joe Burke, lyrics by Gus Kahn. Probably written as a comical parody of the sentimental Oh! What a Pal Was Mary (1919), above.

Cool! Thanks!

The song is, "Oh, What a Pal Was “Whoozis”
