A friend of mine from Costa Rica became almost apoplectic when Jurassic Park was released. The first scene takes place in San Jose, which is shown as an amalgam of huts and peasant hovels on the coast. In reality, it isn’t on the coast and it’s a very modern (at least by Central American standards) metropolis of well over a million people.
A few days ago I saw a really stupid movie on HBO Family called “Durango Kids”. It was set in SW Colorado, where my mother lives, so I watched it to see if I could catch any errors. It didn’t take long…right at the start, they identified the city of Ouray as a “ghost town”.
I’ll bet that comes as a surprise to the 2,300 people who live there!
In the opening scene of The Matrix, as Trinity is being chased across the rooftops, the background is the Nashville skyline, evidenced by the (W)KDF sign and the BellSouth building, yet in my city, we never have anyone flying around kicking cops on the top of the head, and Nashville is not tinted green.
Coincidentally, that same backdrop can be seen from the office of the main bad guy in The 6th Day towards the end, yet we haven’t had any trouble with clones for nearly 6 years now.
