Obvious things about a creative work you realize after the millionth time (OPEN SPOILERS POSSIBLE)

I found an old CD that we bought for our child, one of her favorite TV shows, burned it, and I gotta tell ya, whoever wrote the music for the kids show The Backyardigans was/is a freaking genius.

If you listen to Tubular Bells, he starts singing “caveman” lyrics:

What is he supposed to be saying, if anything?

I did not realize until I read it last week the Cruella de Vil is supposed to mean Cruella devil. It may be due to “de” being like the German “von” in Spanish and “vil” in Spanish meaning the same as “vile” in English, and almost 50 yrs. ago, and when I first encountered the name, I did not speak English, so Cruella of Vile made sense, but still. Went right over me.

It took me a while to realize why Cruella’s licence plate read DEVIL other than a joke until one day I had a revelation. “Oh! DE VIL, now I get it!” My excuse is that I thought her name was spelled DeVille.

It’s always good to have excuses. And it is comforting that other make the same mistakes too

I just realized that the Flash villain, Rainbow Raider’s real name, Roy G Bivilo, the first seven letters of his name consist of the mnemonic for the colors of the rainbow.

… red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, infrared, lilac, octopus.

Have you watched Goldfinger?

I have, but I’m not sure what the connection is.

The name Auric (as in Auric Goldfinger) means “gold” or “relating to gold”.

Not “octopus”. “Octarine”.

Excellent. I should’ve thought of that! I knew of it, but couldn’t have told you the name…

There is a website which locates any spot on the earth with three words. “ungraded lilac octopus” is in northern Brazil.

I like the cut of your jib. :octopus:

I know octopuses can change shape and color, but infrared lilac is damn vibrant.

Then don’t ask about Goldmember.

One more about this Tombstone scene. There are two sub-scenes, the staredown between Curley and Wyatt and gun/cup showdown between Johnny and Doc.

Now think about Curley and Wyatt in the river and Johnny and Doc in the woods. This scene sets up each couple as a protagonist/antagonist pair.

So you’re telling us to never say member again.

You’re not wrong. Even though my daughter has long outgrown her Backyardigans DVDs, I’m reluctant to get rid of them. The songwriting (in so many different styles) is brilliant.

Here’s one a very long time coming.

Desi Arnez played Ricky Ricardo on I Love Lucy. Ricky is short for Richard. In Spanish that’s Ricardo. So his formal name is Ricardo Ricardo!
