That is interesting…it seems that Verizon is paying LucasArts to use “Droid” as the brand name for their Android line. Good move on that long-ago copyright, George!
Correctamundo. If you pay attention, you can see the fine print on the ads.
If there’s one thing George Lucas excels at, it’s turning his intellectual property into cashy monies.
I first learned about androids by watching The Lost Saucer.
Until they explicitly brought it up on the show, I didn’t realize that the Supernatural character Bobby Singer was named after Supernatural producer/director Robert Singer.
I didn’t realize until this morning that half spring training baseball is called the “cactus league” because it is played in Arizona…and the other half is the “grapefruit league” because it is played in Florida. I have known the names for years but never got the connection until now.
I never realized that! And I guess 7 was a Borg-nine.
Wow…Jeri Ryan has really let herself go!
I just started the latest novel by Terry Pratchett featuring Tiffany Aching and the Nac Mac Feegle, and I’m chagrined to say that I only now realized that Rob Anybody means he’ll rob anybody. I’d thought his name was Rob and his last name was just an an anonymous alias, like someone calling themselves Mr. Nonesuch.
ETA: and that “face the music” wasn’t just an idiom!
explain, please.
What did I do to deserve this Punishment?
The “music” in question is what’s called Rough Music. Only in the novel*** I Shall Wear Midnight***, It’s the sound of a mob working itself up to a lynching
The Return of the Jedi threads had me reflecting on Lucas and his penchant for names. Thought of Admiral Ackbar, how it is almost “Allah Ackbar”.
Then thought of Greedo from Star Wars. The bounty hunter that corners Solo in the bar, tries to get Solo to pay him so he won’t kill him to return the body to Jabba for the bounty. The greedy bounty hunter, Greedo.
One of my sigs from many years past was:
After they returned , Seven of Nine and the rest of her Borg pod were arrested for Treason against the Federation. We believe they acted in Good Faith. Free the Earnest Borg Nine!
I’m not going to go through the umpty-million pages of this thread to see if it has been posted before, but here’s a link to one of the funniest Pittings ever (over 10 years old! ), My rage burns with the fire of a million suns, where the OP explains his embarrassment at finding out that Jerry Lewis and Jerry Lee Lewis are two separate people.
Seriously? The last time I watched this movie with the sound on was probably 15 years ago which might be why I never noticed this. Probably seen it ten times with Dark Side on since then though.
I just realized that the meme “sex, drugs, and rock” is merely an update of the old “wine, women and song.”
I mean, REALLY! Why did I never thunk it?
I didn’t, until you posted. :smack:
Old age; it’s a bitch.
I’m not sure if this one was supposed to be obvious or not but someone pointed it out to me and I thought it was nifty (spoilers for the Firefly movie, Serenity):
What does a leaf have to be to be in the wind?
Dead.
I doubt it’s intentional. I know Grey’s Anatomy is already a play on words for the famous anatomical book combined with the protagonist’s last name. But I just realized another related pun - the protagonist is also a neurosurgeon who works with the brain’s so called “grey matter”…
That’s interesting, but I doubt it was intentional on Joss’s part.
