But you do it in Great Debates too. Name calling and insults are childish everywhere. But you can not help yourself since you are bereft of mature arguments.
If you only knew what an idiot this makes you sound like. Tell me, did you put on your grown-up clothes before you posted this?
If you triumph in a battle of wits with someone you think is stupid, doesn’t that make you kind of a prick?
Is civil disobedience a legitimate form of protest?
Sure. But be prepared to have your ass hauled off to jail for breaking the law. That’s how it works. In fact, I saw some excellent footage of Occupiers doing just that in, IIRC, Atlanta of all places. Maybe they’re closer to the roots of the Civil Rights Movement there, and know that you put up no resistance and the cops have to literally lift you up and carry you off. It makes a great visual to aid the cause.
I agree.
I agree more.
I actually think it’s harder to debate with someone I think is stupid. They typically use their ignorance as a rhetorical tool. You have to dumb things down, explain everything, and it ends up getting interminable.
Normally, when I’m debating somebody I think is pretty smart, we’re going to operate at a pretty high level, and we are not going to have to spend a lot of time on remedial knowledge.
And judges too, at least in Nashville.
Not sure I’m getting that, unless the judge is saying arrest is too severe, and they should be simply cited and fined instead. The link doesn’t make that clear, but it must be it. Typically CDers don’t spend much time in jail in the US, and that’s probably the reason, along with the fact that part of the deal with CD is to overwhelm the justice system with detainees.
I don’t mind debating with stupid people. That is why I respond to most of your posts. You are representative of the right . Most are like you. No facts, but doggone you just know shit . The lovely influence of Rush and Kristol feeding your brainlets.
Birds of a feather and all that.. amiright?
Or it could be the twenty years in the securities industry.
My talking to you on this subject is exactly like a Dr. speaking to a patient who denies germ theory, and thinks their illness is caused by an imbalance of bodily humors.
We didn’t learn shit from the Canada riots. There are probably only 80% of the participants who know what they’re there for. The rest are there to tempt authority.
Not opposed to the protests, just saying that one rental-anarchist is all it takes to throw the whole thing into a frenzy.
Again, just sayin’, okay?
Quasi
This.
In those cases where Occupy$CITY[$STREET] is being treated as any other organization would be, this is the right strategy. The only valid grounds for complaint are when they are being treated dis-similarly to similar groups with similar levels of permitting and behavior. (note: I do not consider length-of-protest to be a valid differentiating point here–that is, Occupy getting treated worse than an otherwise similar protest group because Occupy lingered longer is not IMHO a valid excuse for said worse treatment)
One thing that I think sucks is that the parks are really the property of everybody, but the occupy crowd is kind of hogging them so no one else can use them. I think the whole point of parks and public property is that you aren’t supposed to live there and take them for yourself or for any one purpose.
Another thing that sucks is that the claim to be speaking for me. I’m not a 1% er. I found a website that I can’t link to from my iPhone, but you can find easily enough called the 53%.
These are the 53% of the American public that actually hold jobs and pay income taxes, which, I am guessing, would be a rarity for an occupy person (if you have the time to spend several weeks or months living in a park, it’s hard to also be gainfully employed.). This website takes umbrage at the idea that occupy crowd speaks for 99% of the country.
Finally, it’s going to get cold. It is my thesis that liberal pussies lack staying power when things get tough (if they had self discipline, the ability to defer gratitude, and staying power, they would, by definition, have something better to do than live in a park.). So, when it gets cold they’ll give up.
That’s kind of the POINT of the Occupy movement. Like Bill Maher (with whom I don’t agree on anywhere near 100% of his political ideas, but he’s right on with this) said last week, they don’t want a handout. They want a job with a paycheck. If they could find a job that makes enough money to bump them into a paying income tax bracket, I’m pretty sure they’d be happy as a pig in slop.
Oh, and if you hadn’t noticed, for an awful lot of people in this country right now, you’re mixing up cause and effect. They aren’t unemployed because they’re Occupying. They’re Occupying because they’re unemployed.
No offence, but would that I could afford the time to spend days, weeks, and months protesting when I was unemployed. I had to find a job as soon as I could… to feed my family. I’m not sharing any deep, dark secret when I say looking for a job when you are unemployed is a full-time job in and of itself.
When was the last time you were unemployed?
A year and a half ago. I have been laid off twice [edit: the first time was when Clinton was in office, so twice not three times]since the employment crisis.
