Oh, gee, the Chamber president! Who’d have thought he’d hate Occupy?! Mercy me…
Yeah 400 jobs. Who gives a shit?
Then again, if the occupy crows really was about bringing in jobs you’d think the Chamber President would be a fan.
You don’t know much about the Chamber of Commerce, do you…
Apparently not. Tell me all about their anti-jobs stance.
The righties are pushing this crap. Note your sources, the first A new and powerful source of conservative thought.
They are selling this and you are buying it.
Like Rush screaming about rich kids in the movement. it is fabrication. There are all walks of life in occupations. Many are Iraqi war Vets . They are a strong part of the movement. The unions have been slow to get involved. But some union members are there. There is a cross section of America, minus the rich and right wingers who hate so much,.
Reuters and abc?
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/11/05/author-stephen-king-releases-statement-supporting-occupy-bangor/ Even a rich person like Steven king can understand the concentration of wealth threatens the basic fabric of American Society.
Think about it. What will America look like in 20 years if we placidly sit back and allow the wealthy to concentrate more and more wealth in their greedy hands. That is what they are doing.
There are plenty of rich who understand the changes are fundamental. It is more than money. The country is changing into something ugly. The rich are picking our politicians like they are hiring clerks. They direct their activities like the owners they are. We are more powerless every election. Some in the streets cannot articulate their fears. But they feel the world will be a very unpleasant place for them if they don’t act now. What has happened to them can and will happen to the rest. It is time to fight.
Great. Next you’ll telll me that Dean Koontz and Jerry Pournelle are on the team. Swell. Peachy.
All of a sudden, ol’ Scylla is quite good at this whole linky-citey thing! Well, son of a gun. Quick study.
At least around here, the Chamber of Commerce is primarily a pro-business organization, rather than a pro-jobs organization. There’s a notable difference, in terms of policies espoused and sides taken on political questions.
Seeing them so political takes some getting used to, its so weird, its iike they are the militant wing of the Rotary Club.
They are bought and paid for by the one percent. They have good reason to resent the Ocupados, whether they are for creating jobs or not.
Fair enough, but clearly there is a connection. Around here all the storefronts, small businesses, accounting firms, all the employers (the ones who actually provide jobs) are members.

Well, here in Atlanta the riot cops came in swinging yesterday. Like Oakland, the Occupy cities with the poorer, darker participants seem to get the club first.
They should send in caterers ant port-a-potties, not paramilitaries. After a good meal and a full evacuation, things don’t seem too bad.
In Detroit there is a truce with the police that has held so far. Detroit shows the effects of the offshoring, foreclosures, lack of jobs and economic malaise more than any other city. Police have lost their jobs too. When they come around, many cops say they are support the Occupation, but can not actually come down when off duty. They would get in trouble.
The Thanksgiving Day Parade goes right past the Occupy camp. The city sets up bleachers in Grand Circus Park near Woodward. They are putting up Xmas tree lights now. I see a problem coming up.
Providing some jobs as an incidental side effect of the actual purpose of the organization doesn’t necessarily prove that an organization cares about either the jobs or the people who are filling them.
In the cases where it’s an option, I have no doubt in my mind that any Chamber of Commerce I’ve dealt with would choose the policy position that was worse for jobs and better for the bottom line of the businessowners represented.
Besides, the problem isn’t 500 jobs in Oakland. The problem is six million jobs everywhere, including the 99% (heh) of the country currently NOT being Occupy’ed.
I’m in the chamber. We give a shit about the community and the jobs because we live in the community. We are the community as muh as anybody else.
The Chamber, Rotary, kiwis all those other service organizations, a lot of people all make fun of them, and think they are are self-serving. Are they? Yes. There is some of that. But, what they all have in common is that they do a lot of good for their communities. Shit, my rotary provides heating oil to poor and elderly. My chamber helps clean up storefronts of struggling businesses, and helped restore a turn of the century theater and make it a viable business. We give money to a community center, and help youth soccer and basketball for the underprivileged. We buy them their uniforms.
So don’t fucking sit there and tell me that the Chamber of commerce doesn’t serve the community and doesn’t care about jobs. It’s fucking ignorant and stupid. These things have been there long before occupy and have serious tangible accomplishments. As far as I can tell occupy’s tangible accomplishment list is costing already stretched out cities millions of dollars and hundreds of jobs.
Links, soon.
The Chamber of Commerce is a right wing political action organization that promotes conservative issues and attacks liberals and Democrats. If the members of the Chamber could figure out how to increase profits by firing evey one of their employees, they would do it in a heartbeat. Employees are a necessary evil to the Chamber of Commerce.
http://politicalcorrection.org/blog/201010080020 The Chamber used to be local groups promoting and overseeing local business. That ship has sailed. . The Chamber has actively fought for offshoring and cutting of regulations. They are not the innocent little chamber of days past. They are an international powerhouse funded by right wing zealots.
The Chamber of Commerce is a Radical Right Wing group… – Blogs For Victory They are able to spend 75 million pushing for the “right” rightwingers.
