Fabric softener can interfere with the ability of towels to absorb water. Since I started drying regular towels without using softener they have been much more effective.

If you have a problem with very oily spots on your face - and I swear I’m not making this up - get some milk of magnesia and dab it on the oily areas. Dries them right up. You might only need to do this once a week, maybe a few times a week. I’ve tried it myself, and got the tip from Paula Begoun’s book Don’t Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me.

About once a month, rinse your hair with a cup of vinegar or lemon juice. It cuts away all the build-up that your shampoo and conditioner leaves behind.

If your feet or hands are getting very rough, take a shower right before you go to bed, then use a pumice stone, or other rough surface to get off the dead skin, then slather the area with gobs of a good lotion. Put on a pair of heavy socks or gloves to keep the lotion from getting on your sheets. In the morning, wash the area again, use the pumice, and then re-apply the lotion in a normal way. New skin, I tell you!
