My ex-wife, who is from Oklahoma, used to cook a soup with both fresh and dried black eyed peas. She cooked it in the normal way with the dried ones but add the fresh, still in the pod peas toward the end of the cooking time. It was quite good. We grew black eyed peas in my garden.
