Odd Family names?

Two teachers from my junior high: Mr. Dicks and Mr. Capstick.

I recall reading about Satan playing on the Cape Breton Oilers when I was younger. The headline read, “SATAN LEADS OILERS TO VICTORY”.

I was very confused and then my dad set me straight.

My dad also told me that Satan played on a team with someone with the last name of Pope. An unlikely pairing!

Oh yes. I had a coworker named Richard Peter. Dick Peter to his friends. Can you imagine what his grade school years must have been like?

Parents - think before you name.

My surname is Gott, which means god in German. I heard jibes in high school, too, but they were really imaginative ones like “gottrocks” or “goat.” Guess nobody thought I was godly. They were right.

Oh, the United States Attorney General under Nixon was Richard Kleindienst, which name in German means “small service.” Tough name for a politician, no?

I work at a living history village. The baptismal font in the chapel was paid for by a woman named Freedom Butter. That’s a pretty cool name.
