Odd Question About Japanese Women's Apparel

I don’t generally pick up on these things, but a new co-worker is a Japanese national (recently enough relocated that I surmise but do not know that much of her wardrobe may have been bought there), and it struck me that there was something a bit weird about her shirts/blouses (worn with a suit), viz., they had the buttons on the right side and buttonholes on the left – which is how men’s shirts are, whereas women’s are vice versa (at least in the West).

So:

Do women’s clothes bought in Japan button differently? or

Is she just buying men’s (more likely boys’, she’s super slight) dress shirts, for whatever reason?

I’ll ask my wife about this when I get home, but right now, only one woman in my office is wearing a shirt with buttons, and they’re on the left (i.e., same as western womens’ shirts).

Come to think of it, my wife’s bought a lot of clothing overseas, and she probably would have commented if the button styles were opposite of what she expected.
