Odd side effect

A few years ago I was diagnosed with CFS/FM (chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia). I went through a series of presciption medications to alleviate the fatigue, only one of which worked but for which insurance woundn’t pay. Out of desperasion I opted to try some alternative ie, herbal and the like) stuff. I don’t usually do this because I don’t feel these are true medications but, like I said, I was pretty desperate.

Anyway, to make a long story a bit longer, I went through a series of herbal stuff (none of which worked) and started on DHEA. It helped, but what was really amazing is that after less than a week of taking 50 mg twice a day, my poor little libido went into some kind of crazed hyperdrive. I assume this is because it converts into sex hormones readily, but it sure wasn’t listed as a side effect when I researched the drug.

I quit the stuff before I inadvertantly murdered the boyfriend. What I’d like to know is if anyone around here has experienced similar… er, sensations if/when they took DHEA?

The true Spanish Fly eh?

I haven’t had any experience with it, but I’m thinking I know a few women in my life that I can slip some to…

I don’t think I’d call it that soulmurk, just an odd reaction.

Bumping this a bit because I really would like to know if anyone else had this problem with the drug and that I’m not off my nut.

A quick search came up with this link.

It basically states that there have not been enough studies to determine the pros and cons to the drug, and it did have this to say about what portion of it you are concerned with:

I would have to imagine that introducing a steroid hormone into your system could have such an effect, steroids tend to have different effects on different people.

The advertisements flaunt it as a positive side affect, 1 study states it isn’t true, and you have experienced it. I’d have to say that it is very possible others have as well, just not nearly as many as advertisers would lead you to believe.

I will note however, that I could only find 2 types of sites: the advertisements saying it’s the best thing since sliced bread, and the nay-sayers saying that it can cause all kinds of cancers and various other problems, particularly for women.

I’d recommend doing some research into it before continuing its use.

I did research DHEA before I started taking the stuff soulmurk, but had never seen an information or advertisements stating that it increased sex drive. It converts into both testosterone and estrogen readily so I’m assuming that’s what happened to me. Only took it for a month, couldn’t handle that specific side effect, and like I said, nearly killed the boyfriend. (But he would have died happy)
