A friend has XP Home on a one-year-old Dell machine, 256M memory. Lately when he runs his MSN connection, nothing else responds, not even going to the Start button and trying to pick on My Documents or something. It looks to me like the mouse click interrupt is saved, because when he closes MSN, whatever he tried to start suddenly comes up. It’s kind of inconsistent; I tried it and was able to start Word but not get My Documents to open. MSN told him he was running out of memory but I can’t believe that MSN is such a hog that if it’s the only application running, nothing else can start. He had his virtual memory set up with manual limits, I moved it to allow the system to manage it but it didn’t help.
Any ideas?
