Ode to Ramen Noodles

Instant ramen is to fresh, as Sanka is to Peets.

In other words, there’s no comparison.

As goboy recommends, try a ramen shop in your local Little Tokyo or Japantown if you get a chance.

Yes, other Asian countries have noodle-in-soup dishes (pho in Vietnam is a good example), you haven’t tried REAL ramen/rahmen until you’ve tried the fresh stuff in a Japanese ramen shop.

BTW the best ode to ramen can be found in Juzo Itami’s 1986 classic, Tampopo, a great movie about the quest for the perfect bowl of ramen. It’s hilarious at times (the non-sequiter segues related to foodstuffs is particularly riotous) but most of all, makes you wish you were sitting with a big bowl of noodles. Rent this if you can. It’s one of my favorite movies.

right said fred- and I thought I was the only person who ate Top Ramen raw & crunchy right out of the package! Of course, it started out as an “I’ve got the munchies SOOOO BADDDDD” type of thing, but they’re really not bad at all.

'Course, its been a long time since I had the munchies…
