Of all the stupid reasons to get upset (The Black House) question...

Okay, this is a little long…

Yesterday I went to the grocery store and almost dropped my basket when I saw copies of The Black House for sale. OMIGOD, I loved The Talisman and was anxiously awaiting this book. Then I saw the pricetag  $42.00? I can’t afford that right now. Granted I’m pretty emotional right now, but I almost started crying, it’s like taking away the thing that, for a minute, cheered me up. All the wedding stress, all the sadness of the past week just brightened for a second, then it was gone.

Then, on the way home it occured to me, what if it’s terrible, what if I hate it? Here’s my question:

If you have read it, please let me know if it’s good, that way I’ll beg, borrow and steal until I can get it

42.00 American Dollars? Jesus Christ! What does it do, read itself? Is there a special prize inside, like a computer?
Well, I planned on buying it tonight. I guess I’ll still go to Wal-Mart, traditionally books are cheaper there. But 42.00 is lil much right now.

Well, it seems to be about $18.00 at Amazon.com.

And if all else fails, there’s always the library.

That would be 42 Canadian Dollars, as I live in Winnipeg, sorry I guess I should’ve specified.

Woo, well then I guess it’s a good thing I asked.

Well, I just checked Doubleday’s web site, and it appears my copy was shipped out to me the day before yesterday. I’d be happy to send it to you once I’m finished reading it. (Am I’m a fast reader, too!)

Yeah well, Barnes and Noble has it for $17.37 AND you don’t have to pay for shipping. (Dammitt. It’s my day off and I’m still selling books for B&N. What have they done to me?)

Disclaimer - I assume you mean the King/Straub novel The Black House.

As a librarian, I was planning to second the library suggestion, but I checked the Winnipeg public library
http://wpl.city.winnipeg.mb.ca

and they have 23 copies, all are In Processing status. That generally means they have received the copies and are in the midst of barcoding, etc.

There are currently 86 holds. That’s 4 holds per copy. It is going to be a high-demand book, so the loan period will probably be fairly short. You might be able to get your hands on it in 4 weeks. That’s a long time!

That’s the problem with best sellers - it’s hard to get your hands on them when they first come out.

Man - what a geek I am. Sheesh!
