% of Democrat and Republican Senators that deny Evolution?

Naxos and Qin Shi Huangdi, I told you to take this discussion to another thread. If you post about it again in this one, you will be warned for ignoring my instructions. And just by way of reference, Qin Shi Huangdi, read about the Southern strategy. Don’t comment about it in this thread, but maybe you’ll want to discuss it elsewhere.

I’m not sure what your argument is, here.

“I believe in evolution” means “I believe that evolutionary theory correctly explains biological diversity, etc.” not “I don’t believe there is such a concept as evolution.” It’s certainly possible to believe or not believe in a given model.

I understand what evolution is and I have no problem saying I believe it.

That statement is a fallacy.

We have to use simple and legitimate terms when talking about the truth. The word “believe” has too many vague connotations in every day language.

Religionists will accuse you that you “believe” in something, then that something must be a religion too.

Evolution is real, it’s a fact, it’s not a matter to believe in. It’s a matter that someone acknowledges or not.

Naxos does not believe in evolution.

I’ve noticed the same effect in email discussions. People are not expecting agreement! The convention I am adopting is to start my reply with “I agree”.

I’m cynical with regard to politicians. I’d guess that more Reps publicly ‘believe’ in creationism then Dems, simply because the Reps base is more Fundamentalist then the Dems base.

If either base consisted of flat earthers, I’d bet that there would be a few Dems/Reps who publicly ‘believed’ in flat earthism.

As to what they believe in private, I seriously suspect that is an entirely different thing.

Maybe I’m too jaded and cynical.

I’m cynical, too, but if a lot of those GOP pols aren’t real Creationists, then they are damn good actors!

Then I’ll happily point out that they’re wrong. Some beliefs are supported by evidence and reason, and some are not.

The correctness of a concept is not related to whether or not one may believe it is true. A statement about belief is a statement about one’s personal mental state. It can and does encompass facts and non-facts.
